Gothic Garden Design Ideas
Gothic gardens are unique because each gardener focuses on a different aspect or combines several unusual accents. Sometimes the lure is in the flowers and plants - using black and dark-colored varieties, carnivorous plants, uncommon vegetables, or even using smells, sights, and sounds to attract the creatures of the night.
A Gothic garden can be challenging to create, but very rewarding to design. There aren't many dark plant varieties available, so a little extra imagination will help create your dark garden sanctuary.

Hellebore's come in almost every color - ranging from the lightest of whites to almost purely black varieties. Most species are poisonous, so be careful when the kids and animals are around your garden and always wash your hand thoroughly after handling blooms.
Other Dark Plant Varieties
Queen of Night Tulips are hard to find in the US, but you may be able to track down a few bulbs in the Spring using the list of links down below for seed suppliers. The are rich, velvety dark purple in color.Bat Plants are a tropical variety and very temperamental. If you have a greenhouse or live in a warm and moist climate, you may want to try your hand at a few of these tall, flowing beauties. Bat plants are black, brown, and I have seen a white version floating around once in a while for sale.

- I wish I would have stumbled on this site earlier..I am currently germinating these as mentioned on this page:hollyhocks,violas,carnations,and morning glories(only a week in).One thing I picked up that wasn't mentioned was Dark Beauty Mondo Grass - Ophiopogon (a black ornamental grass).Keep up the good work!

- I grow whatever catches my eye, don't go for color or any other determining factor. Follow my heart is what I do most of the time. Nice collection of black flowers, thumbs up and lensrolled to my carnation lens.
