What is my Gothic Name?

It's a tradition for Goths to choose or find a suitable dark nickname for use in writing, art, poetry, crafts, screennames, and online networks. Assuming a separate alias from your common name allows you to feel associated with your unique personal traits, rather than identity alone.

About Gothic Names

Goth Nicknames

Goths aren't the only ones who choose new names. It's common to use a screenname that isn't your own legal title, or even multiple user accounts across the web these days.

Choosing a name comes from Pagan beliefs; that keeping an personal identity separate from public knowledge is an extra level of protection when used in the magic Worlds. A Gothic name not something that is used daily other than associated with creative works - contrary to popular belief.

Gothic names are usually morbid, dark, romantic/poetic, humorous, character-based, or fantasy related. A few examples include:

"Raven Twilight"
"Nebula Hades"
"Morticia Bones"
"Nyx Midnight"
"Black Feline"

...and so on.

Choose Your Own Name

Goth Names - your own unique creation

Gothic, names, cat, nicknamesChoosing your own Gothic name is a little more complex than clicking a button to have it generated for you. If you plan to use it frequently or until the end of time, you may want to choose something personal to include your unique characteristics.

Write down all of your favorites - music, books, places, people, animals, clothing types, etc. You can choose directly from your list, or move on to a more creative selection process...

Go back and add adjectives and one more noun to describe each favorite in your own terms. For example, if I included "Cat" as one of my favorite animals, I would write down the words "playful" and "mysterious" for adjectives, and "feline" as another noun.

You can randomly choose from your list of creative words to combine them as a phrase, or selectively pick the few that fit your personality the most accurately.
