What is a Government Auction?

Most people are familiar with auctions especially online auctions such as EBay, the government also auctions off or sells at a fixed price a wide variety of seized and surplus merchandise such as real estate property, vehicles, boats, computer equipment and military accessories among other things.

If you are looking for real estate to buy from the government homesales.gov is where you need to look. The properties that are for sale are from all the United States and its commonwealths. The site was developed jointly by HUD and the VA

The site is easy to navigate. There are tabs at the top of page that will guide you to Houses, building and land, farms and International real estate. For example if you click on Houses, you will see a map of the United States, click on the state where you want to look for a house. You will see listings of cities where houses are available.

Why does the Government have auctions?

They are required to rotate their inventory and they are also required to auction off their surplus.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- It was a successful day for the US Marshals Service in Albuquerque after they auctioned off over 20 government surplus and seized vehicles. Over 150 people came out to the auction where the Marshals raised a total of 145000.
