Sen. Graham on Immigration: Fair, Just, and Compassionate

The recent failure of the Senate to pass the Comprehensuive Immigration Reform legislation has left Sen. Graham with the challenge of generating support for individual initiatives linked to immigration reform and border security. SOme of these initiatives include offering and amendment to homeland security legislation that would increase border security efforts, and introducing legislation that would "further provide resources to help gain operational control over the borders of the United States, enforce and strengthen interior immigration laws, and create additional penalties for immigration violations." The introduction of this bill builds on the success gained upon approval of $3 billion that was approved for border security.

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham says the failure of the massive immigration bill a few weeks ago allowed him to win on another immigration bill last week to tighten the nation's borders.

Graham was in Columbia Monday morning talking to reporters about last week's passage of a $3 billion plan to build fences and put border patrol agents on the job.

Border security step forward
A Senate bill aiming for comprehensive immigration reform failed last month, in large part because opponents insisted that border security must come first. The Senate wisely moved toward satisfying that demand Thursday, approving in near-unanimous fashion an amendment from South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham and Arkansas Democrat Mark Pryor to appropriate an extra $3 billion to secure "operational control" of the U.S.-Mexico border.
U.S. Senate approves Graham border measure
WASHINGTON - The Senate overwhelmingly passed Sen. Lindsey Graham's legislation Thursday to spend $3 billion in emergency funds on fortifying the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Senate voted 89-1 for Graham's amendment to a $37.6 billion appropriations bill for the Homeland Security Department.

"Three billion dollars is serious money to be used in a serious way to regain operational control of the border," Graham said in an interview after the vote. "The vote was overwhelming because everybody agrees that the broken borders we have today are not in our national security interests."

Border Security and Immigration Refrom Plan
Over the last few months, I have spoken with President Bush almost every week and met with him twice about immigration reform. Secretary Chertoff and Secretary Gutierrez have been there every step of the way. There would be no bill without their hard work.
Winning the War on Terror
Fighting the War on Terror, winning in Iraq and securing our nation's borders are all part of the same challenge. As long as we have 12-15 million unidentified illegal immigrants hiding in our nation, American lives are in danger.

Lindsey Answers Constituent's Concerns

Lindsey Found Time To Address My Concerns!
by SCGeeCheeGirl

NOTE: My comments are italized. Senator Grahams quotes are in bold.

Actually, he found the time to send me a 4 page letter explaining his stance on immigration AFTER I e-mailed him and told him that as far as I was concerned, voting for amnesty had cost him my vote. (Along with my husbands vote too.) I'll give him this much, he did not ignore my e-mail and/or just eighty-six it. He took the time to answer, though I am sure it is a form letter. Now we just need to get rid of the RINO on his back.
