Ideas for standout Guestbook Titles
Since first publishing this lens, the Guestbook titles theme has really taken off, both with the uses to which the Guestbook module is being put and also with the creativity that Lensmasters are applying to all module titles. If you come across a great Guestbook Title, please make sure that you add it to the collection of "Favorite Guestbook Titles" listed below.

Graphical Guestbook Titles
Using an image as a title.
The image code is inserted into the optional Text Box, like this:
But note that you can only use jpeg or giff images.Saving images as a gif enables the use of transparent backgrounds, which display as white in standard Squidoo modules
For banners to go across the full width of a a guestbook module, the image needs to be set at width="585px" , the height is usually 50px or 60 px. Which probably means saving the image on another server and linking to it, rather than uploading it to the Squidoo server. See the example on Where to see great art.
Remember that you may want to leave the main title and sub-title boxes blank.
The Graphical Guestbook Title gives me the excuse to display this sensational image from Lensmaster Flynn_the_Cat:
Now I bet that caught your attention and it is being displayed out of context. Flynn uses it on a lens devoted to paintings using just red, white and black. Go see it in context on her lens red-white-black-artwork
Flynn has pointed out that big graphics like this are best uploaded into the "Big Picture plus Text" module, leaving the Title and Sub-title fields blank, and then positioning a Guestbook module immediately below it, again leaving the Title and Sub-title fields blank.
It can also be quite effective to enclose a small thumbnail. I think this example from my Gardens to Visit lens works well.
It is great to get feedback and any suggestions will be much appreciated.
clickable images
On her lens red-white-black-artwork, Flynn has made the image clickable, as has lensmaster Evelyn_Saenz , who uses clickable thumbnail images in her lens, Happy Valentine's Day, Froggy!
Here's an Idea
Use your avatar to personalize your guestbook.
If your going to do this, you can get the avatar image URL from your profile page and you need to use style="float:left; padding:2px;" in the img tag, so that the text begins at the top of the description box, immediately after the image.

Guestbook Titles in Different Languages
Here's how to say Reader Feedback in some common languages
English
Reader Feedback
French
Rétroaction de lecteur
German
Leser-Rückgespräch
Italian
Risposte del lettore
Portuguese
Gabarito do leitor
Spanish
Regeneración del lector
Simp. Chinese
读者反馈
In the forums, some Lensmasters have reported that using other languages has provoked feedback requesting they stick to English! You can get round this by using English in the sub-title or description text box.
Quotations
Though my rhyme be ragged, tattered and jagged .....
The Quotations Page is a good source of quotations and ideas for Guestbook titles; of particular benefit to Lensmasters, you can browse quotations by subject. Lensmaster Kenneth_Ang has published a lens on his personal favorites.
Some examples of quotations that I have used with Guestbooks on my lenses
- What's happening in Glasgow
- O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.
Robert Burns - French Wine
- The wine urges me on, the bewitching wine, which sets even a wise man to singing and to laughing gently.
Homer - Shakespeare's Globe
- Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow.
Shakespeare - Stratford upon Avon
- Good night unto you all. Give me your hands, if we be friends.
Shakespeare - What's happening in Berlin
- Hearing voices no one else can hear isn't a good sign.
J. K. Rowling - What's happening in Cornwall
- If you leave some feedback I'll be
Dancing here, prancing there, Jigging, jogging ev'rywhere Up and down, and round the town, Singing hurrah! for the Cornish Floral Dance - Fungi and Fairies
- Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance?
Whatever. Please leave a comment though. The quote is from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll..
Use a standard Guestbook Title template or graphic
I use the phrase: If you want to leave a comment and your not a member, please join the community, it's quick, painless and free!
I have saved the code snippet, so all that I have to do when I produce a new lens is a quick copy and paste. Lensmaster Skiesgreen has produced a small graphic and has a standard template which she uses at the foot of all her lenses. A great time saver and it makes sure that it doesn't get forgotten.
Questions
Most people automatically respond to a question. Do you?
Ask questions from your heart and you will be answered from the heart. (Omaha Proverb).
don't have to look like a Guestbook. You can disguise the Guestbook module so that it can be used for other purposes. See for example the earlier invitation to add an idea to the table of Guestbook Title Ideas; don't forget to leave the title and sub-title fields blank. The essential feature of the Guestbook module is that it uses an html form, which acts like email and allows users to post information to your lens.
Adding boarders and backgrounds
Sojourn tells you how to add boarders and backgrounds in her lens HTML Borders Backgrounds.
Here are some useful color codes that match with Squidoo themes
- Light grey #B2B2B2;
- Grey #888;
- Dark grey #555;
- Light Blue #279BEC;
- (Default) Blue #1A67B8;
- Yellow #FAFC7D;
- Green #266806;
- Orange #F90;
- Valentine's Red #AA0E0F;
- Maroon #AA235E;
- Purple #732C7A;
This is a nice example from Wednesday_Elf's baseball jargon quiz. Note that this comments form is non operational.
Whether you call it Baseball Lingo, Baseball Jargon, a baseball acronym, terminology or expression, Baseball has a language all it's own.
My favorite baseball expression to hear sportscasters say is...
"Strike 'em out, throw 'em out... Double Play!"

- Great idea! Another round of updates...
-
Don't forget the Comments Plexo
- Example comment 1
- Example comment 2
- Example comment 3
When using the standard Guestbook to collect information, visitors will often fill in the Comments form, to leave feedback about the lens. The Comments Plexo conveniently overcomes this problem by removing the "add your comment" invitation and replacing it with an "add to this list" button. Furthermore, you can choose if and when to display information that has been posted.
If you use a text list, followed by a Comments Plexo, once you have transferred information to the Text List, you can delete it from the Comments Plexo.
Final Thought
You can use these ideas on many of the Squidoo modules, not just the Guestbook.Been Inspired?

- Lensmaster called911 wrote, "Wow, this was a really quality lens. In theory I'd like to write like this too ? taking time and actual effort to make a good lens? but what can I say? I procrastinate a lot and never appear to get something done."
Unfortunately, I couldn't approve the whole of the post because it contained superfluous links.
