Family Game Night -- why is it important? Read this and then go play with your kids!
This is a quote from the movie "Hook". Wife Moira is trying to knock some sense into Peter, who has forgotton to be a Dad.
"Your children love you. They want to play with you. How long do you think that lasts? Soon Jack may not even want you to come to his games. We have a few special years with our children...when they're the ones that want us around. Then you'll be running after them for a bit of attention. It's so fast. It's a few years, then it's over."
Why Hands On? (I don't know the author, but I live this little poem!)
I TRIED TO TEACH MY CHILD WITH BOOKS;
HE GAVE ME ONLY PUZZLED LOOKS.
I TRIED TO TEACH MY CHILD WITH WORDS;
THEY PASSED HIM BY OFTEN UNHEARD.
DESPAIRINGLY, I TURNED ASIDE;
"HOW SHALL I TEACH THIS CHILD," I CRIED?
INTO MY HAND HE PUT THE KEY,
"COME," HE SAID, "PLAY WITH ME."

Kids should not have TV in their bedrooms!
My 7 year old son occasionally comes home from a play date announcing that so-and-so has a TV in their room. Every time he asks when he can have a TV in his room. I tell him it's not going to happen. Of course, he thinks I'm the most unfair mom on the planet at that point.
When did this ridiculous trend of TVs (and computers, for that matter)in kid's bedrooms begin?? It takes away from family time, creative thinking, pretend play (like playing outside) and contributes to kids thinking that they are entitled to this luxury.
Our TV is and will always be in the family room. We have another TV in our bedroom as parents. Some will argue that the family doesn't argue over TV shows when everyone has their own TV. Well, sometimes you don't get what you want (not only kids are the ones that need this lesson)! Some will say their kids only watch educational programs or a pre-determined amount of TV. If older kids are hording the TV time, then the older kids need to learn how to share. These are just a few of the explanations I've heard when parents are rationalizing a TV in a child's room.
TV is out of control as it is. Less is better.
Would you be ok with a TV in your child's bedroom?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byYes -- it's harmless
No -- it's insane
What's in it for me? Confidence and extra $$
The perks are so much more than the $$
I chose to become an Educational Consultant at first to earn a little extra money and I knew my kids could benefit from the great toys as well! I quickly found many other reasons to stick with it! The Rocket Start program for new Consultants is so easy and I earned back my $99 kit in 2 months time with only 4 hostess parties/demos! So, basically, I started my business for free! Building my business only 4-6 hours per week gets me out of the house and meeting so many new families that aren't within a stone's throw of my own home! I've made new friends, met interesting people, am out in the community, have a great toy reserve for "rainy days" and "I'm bored" moments and, to top it all off, I make extra money as well. Making money was the initial reason, but the people are why I continue to build my business! Stuck on an Escalator!
Sometimes when you are stuck in life, it just takes a few simple steps to get moving again!
The MOM SONG!!!
The MOM SONG -- Oh, it will have you ROTFL!!!!
The Mom Song Sung to William Tell Overture with Lyrics
"The Mom" song, sung to the William Tell Overture, by Anita Renfroe. What a mom says in 24 hours, condensed into 2 minutes and 55 seconds! Hilarious and talented! Lyrics for "The Mom Song" is given below. (Thank you BelleFlower15!) "The Mom Song" Get up now Get up now Get up out of bed Wash your face Brush your teeth Comb your sleepyhead Here's your clothes and your shoes Hear the words I said Get up now! Get up and make your bed Are you hot? Are you cold? Are you wearing that? Where's your books and your lunch and your homework at? Grab your coat and gloves and your scarf and hat Don't forget! You gotta feed the cat Eat your breakfast, the experts tell us it's the most important meal of all Take your vitamins so you will grow up one day to be big and tall Please remember the orthodontist will be seeing you at 3 today Don't forget your piano lesson is this afternoon so you must play Don't shovel Chew slowly But hurry The bus is here Be careful Come back here Did you wash behind your ears? Play outside, don't play rough, will you just play fair? Be polite, make a friend, don't forget to share Work it out, wait your turn, never take a dare Get along! Don't make me come down there Clean your room, fold your clothes, put your stuff away Make your bed, do it now, do we have all day? Were you born in a barn? Would you like some hay? Can you even hear a word I say? Answer the phone! Get off the phone! Don't sit so close, turn it down, no texting at the table No more computer time tonight! Your iPod's my iPod if you don't listen up Where are you going and with whom and what time do you think you're coming home? Saying thank you, please, excuse me makes you welcome everywhere you roam You'll appreciate my wisdom someday when you're older and you're grown Can't wait till you have a couple little children of your own You'll thank me for the counsel I gave you so willingly But right now I thank you not to roll your eyes at me Close your mouth when you chew, would appreciate Take a bite maybe two of the stuff you hate Use your fork, do not burp or I'll set you straight Eat the food I put upon your plate Get an A, get the door, don't get smart with me Get a grip, get in here, I'll count to three Get a job, get a life, get a PHD Get a dose of, "I don't care who started it! You're grounded until you're 36" Get your story straight and tell the truth for once, for heaven's sake And if all your friends jumped off a cliff would you jump, too? If I've said it once, I've said at least a thousand times before That you're too old to act this way It must be your father's DNA Look at me when I am talking Stand up straighter when you walk A place for everything and everything must be in place Stop crying or I'll give you something real to cry about Oh! Brush your teeth, wash your face, put your PJs on Get in bed, get a hug, say a prayer with mom Don't forget, I love you And tomorrow we will do this all again because a mom's work never ends You don't need the reason why Because, because, because, because I said so, I said so, I said so, I said so I'm the mom, the mom, the mom, the mom, the mom!! Ta da!!!
