An A to Z of Greek Mythology
There are many names from Greek mythology that have survived into the modern day, the likes of Zeus, of Jason and the Argonauts, and of Hades. Equally though there are many hundreds more that people pass over within stories from the Illiad and Odyssey without realising their significance.
A - A Good Place to Start
There is of course no single website or book that can provide a complete and indepth listing of all gods, mortal, and creatures from Greek mythology. Thus the list that starts below shows some basic information, and where applicable provides links to more detailed articles.
- Achilles - One of the Greek heroes, a demi-god born to Nereid, Thetis, Achilles was a mighty warrior and invulnerable aside from his Achilles heel. Read more about Achilles.
Aeetes - King of Colchis and holder of the Golden Fleece until jason arrived with the Argonauts. Aeetes was also father to Medea. Read more about Aeetes.
Ajax - A Greek hero from the Trojan War. The strongest of all of the Greek forces, he was an integral part of Agamemnon's forces, but failed to survive the hostilities.
Ares - One of the Olympian gods, and son to Zeus and Hera. Known normally as the Greek God of War, he is more correctly known as the Greek God of the Slaughter. Read more about Ares.
Argo - The ship built by Argus, was protected by Hera and commanded by Jason. After the adventure of the Golden Fleece ti was transformed into the constellation of Argo Navis.

Argonauts - The Argonauts were the crew of the Argo, and were the bravest and most intelligent of the Greek heroes of their day. Tasked with travelling to Colchis to take the Golden Fleece from Aeetes.
Asclepius - The Greek god of medicine and healing, Asclepius inspired Hippocrates into the science, and his image in the form of the Rod of Asclepius lives on today connected as it is to medical practitioners. Read more about Asclepius.
Atalanta - One of the few female heroines from Greek mythology, Atalanta was a legendary hunter and a match for many of the male heroes. Read more about Atalanta.
Atlas - The name of Atlas is now widely recognised as that of the Titan who held aloft the heavens as punishment for defying Zeus. Atlas also crossed paths with Heracles the legendary Greek hero. Read more about Atlas.
