The Eco-Button

Ideal for those not willing or able to upgrade to a new pc, but still keen to save money and cut carbon emissions.
This fairly simple and cheap device relies on a little bit of software and a small button attached by cable to a USB port on your PC. When pressed, this quickly sends your pc into a deep-sleep mode, much faster than any other method of sending it into standby. Whilst using less power than it would on standby it is also instantly restores at a touch of of your keyboard, the computer instantly returns to where you left off and displays a splash screen showing savings of both money and carbon.
Also, it's much faster than navigating through your start menu, so it's more likely that you'll actually use it.

You can find the eco-button for sale at
Nigel's Eco Store

The Natural Collection along with a range of eco gadgets and consumables.

Some older computers and some HP* computers may have difficulty in reactivation. This is a problem with the computer bios and not the software. It will work with all OS's, Vista, XP, windows 2000 & laptops, though Mac OS's are currently unsupported.
On my HP the reactivation doesn;t work by clicking the button, keys or mouse, you have to hit the actual start button on the box and it starts up straight away at the screen telling you your energy/CO2 saving.

Samsung Ecogreen F1 1TB Hard Drive

One of the most energy efficient hard drives to arrive on the market and with a massive 1terabyte of storage for under $200 it certainly is worth a look at if you're looking to make your own green pc, or just want to make your current one a bit more eco-friendly.
This hard drive is getting rave results from many review sites due to it's revoltionary use of 3 platters each storing 334gb. This reduces the number of parts required to operate the hard drive and helps to boost the drive's speed for overall improved performance.
The EcoGreen F1 incorporates 5400RPM rotational speeds, 3.0Gbps SATA interface, native command queuing features along with a 32MB buffer memory. The power consumption is also 15% less than most of it's 'green' competitors and 50% less power consumption than a traditional hard drive.
With the ability to be used as an external or internal drive and noise reduction technology named SilentSeek and NoiseGuard this will surely be a very popular drive for those wishing to build greener pc's.
