A Black and Green Gothic Culture

Green Living tips and learning to "go green" are an increasingly popular interest because everyone wants to do their part in effectively saving the planet. Many new eco-friendly products have been created to demonstrate that you don't have to lose any modern conveniences in order to make a lasting difference in this World.

When you think of the Gothic culture, you automatically relate it to the color black...but did you know that Goths are also extremely green???

1. We salvage the World's unwanted wrought iron...

Gothic Wrought Iron

You won't find any gates, candle holders, furniture, planters, or wall decor items in a landfill because we collect every piece possible from friends and family. What...you don't want that old rusted iron garden stake? I'll take it!

2. We conserve energy...

Green lighting = candles

Electricity? We spend our $60 a month in candles to carefully place them in between hundreds of figurines, sculptures, art, and collectibles.

Bright lights and bulbs tend to ruin a dark and foreboding setting...

3. We're never wasteful...

Gothic Art; Green Altered Materials

Before altered art was "altered", it was merely art.

Scraps, trinkets, and the careful planning of an occasional worthwhile supply that has potential to become something treasured is just how Gothic artists are used to crafting.

3. Re-using is our only option...

Gothic Green Living

When it comes to clothing and decor, few selections are available to completely fit personal tastes. The individuality of Goths requires modifying items as trend setting and major distribution of the same crappy products is highly unappealing.

We use what we have, make it better, and keep it forever.

5. We keep the Earth clean...

Green Planet Goth

Instead of tossing away massive quantities of last year's styles of gadgets, electronics, and monthly media, we fill our homes with extensive libraries, craft and art supplies, notebooks & journals, sculptures, figurines, collectibles, and antiques.

We prefer to create, explore, invent and attempt to define the unknown rather than follow trends and hyped news stories.

6. Who needs gas?

We're all waiting for the horse and buggy lanes on the highway, while crisis strikes the expensive wheeled and powered versions of transportation. Although "Gothed out" antique car models, and motorcycles are appealing, we'd trade them for a team of black horses and intricately designed horse-drawn carriages in a heartbeat.

7. All natural power...

Medieval Crafting

We prefer skilled craftsman to the use of power tools and mass production. Hand-layered stone, carved wood, and forged iron last a few lifetimes and as a bonus they never seem to depreciate.

8. Good until the last drop...

If legal restrictions didn't apply, we'd use everything to it's FULL potential. Come on, no one else wants a genuine bone throne and a matching set of carved skull dishes!? ;-)

9. In life and death...

Gravely Green

Sure, we hang out in graveyards but you'll also find us in a garden...in fact many Goths are amazing gardeners. Our plants might be darkly colored and bite off limbs, but our stone pots are always full and create a lovely home for our gargoyles.

10.

Where's 10?

#10 is highly unnecessary. I determined 9 fair reasons without fully analyzing how Goths and the Gothic culture can be considered truly green! :-)

Also as the global mean temperature rises due to climate change then being a goth is going to be no fun at all. PVC will be too hot and sticky to wear, ones mascara will run, and prancing round clubs dressed in reams of black will become impossible.

Another good reason to cut your carbon emissions, if you need to fly, change into a bloody bat.

It never occured to me how green goth is, but you totally make the case! The best part is that it's not going green to be trendy - it just makes good sense.
5 stars and a roll to my green lenses!
