Shopping For Groceries Online...Who Gives The Best Service?
I've just about had it with supermarket shopping, my precious time could be spent doing lots of other far more interesting things!
I don't know about you, but my already weak tolerance levels usually take a severe bashing when I have to venture out to the dreaded supermarket.
With the school holidays now upon us, I would rather lick the floor of a taxi than battle it out around any of my local supermarkets.
So I have decided that I really ought to try shopping for my food online.
The only thing that has stopped me trying this in the past, is wondering if someone else, employed by the supermarket, the 'pickers' will select my groceries with care.
When I go out to the supermarket, I make sure that all the Best Before dates are good.
Will the 'pickers' do that?
I seriously doubt it and could imagine ordering my weekly groceries online, only to find that everything needed eating within the next day or so.
I'm on a quest to find out which supermarkets are the best at their online delivery service...
Time for some research...

My Twitter Research For Online Grocery Shopping
I decided to ask what experiences people had online grocery shopping in the U.K. via Twitter. Here are some the replies I got:
~ love online grocery shopping! Sainburys are my fav (v cheap & good service), Ocado are more expensive...
but do have a well thought out service eg. food is divided up into colour coded bags (helpful!), but their customer service
can be quite slow at getting back to you/sorting things out if something goes wrong
~ sainsburys are good but believe ocado are the best
~ love a bit of tesco online, lazyness at its best, instant food for £3 :-)
~ My exp with Tesco .... a weeks shopping needing using within the first couple of days as dates very short :-(
~ I LOVE online shopping. But i do buy fruit myself as can be hit and miss
~ I shop with Tesco and you can put a note on your shop saying you don't want short dates. I always write messages to the pickers
~ I hate supermarket shopping. What a waste of 2 hrs of my life. I would rather spend it sewing
~ sainsburys are usually very good, Asda not so good
~ Some supermarkets mark imminent use-by dates on their invoice when delivering. Some don't!
~ I've used Waitrose, Asda, Sainsburys & Tesco. Tesco are by far the worst in terms of freshness & quality.
~ I've always had good date on my shopping from sainsburys, anything with short date is pointed out and can be returned
Tweeting The Supermarkets!
Hmmmm...I'm a bit of a stickler on those Best Before dates...So that evening I sent out the following Tweet:
@ocadouk @sainsburys @UKTesco Convince me to do online grocery shopping with you!
So far I'm hearing that BB dates are iffy ordering online.
The next morning, I got this reply from Sainsburys:
Hey, we train all our pickers to shop as if it were for their own, so you'll get the best BB dates available! Thanks, Ciaran.
Sounded good, so I gave it a RT
Then I sent out this tweet:
On my quest to find out more re:online grocery shopping so far only @sainsburys have got back re: BB dates @ocadouk @UKTesco.still waiting!
Shortly after Tesco got back to me:
Hi Jen Our fussy pickers shop as if it were their own order, they always pick the best dates available in (contd in next tweet)
Hi Jen (contd ) in store on that day. Why don't you give us a try?
So I Retweeted that to my followers...
Soon got a reply from one of my followers that read:
"Hi Jen Our fussy pickers shop as if it were their own order" Not in my local Tesco, quality is rarely satisfactory.
Then Ocado replied to me:
Not at all iffy in our case! Have a look at http://ow.ly/5JMmo for info on our unique Life Guarantee. :-)
So I gave that one a Retweet too.

- Delivery is usually ok with Tesco and they do usually make appropriate substitutes. Ocado are by far the best but the produce is more expensive.
