Hafa Gachong! Drop by and visit and say something!

And sorry about losing the last bunch of comments that had been here... A "technical glitch" wiped it out. But we'll try to keep this one around! (With Squidoo's help, of course!)

From the lens Guam - Where America's Day Begins - A Tropical Paradise!.

My son just came back to the contiguous states after 42 days in Guam with the Air National Guard. He brought me a silly coconut piggy bank, and says that Guam is "the poor man's Hawaii." I'll be back to check out more of what's on this lens. Cool stuff!

Twelve years in paradise, I could live with that! Beautifully done! It's a cold day in Fargo, so I pretended a little that I was on the beach. I did feel a little sad at the loss of the quansets, those darn typhoons ~ I guess there is a down side. The beauty and all the wonderful wildlife sure make up for it. You had such a wonderful advantage of being there over a big piece of time. That Purple Star shines nicely here!
  • Squidoolinepro Dec 13, 2010 @ 11:45 am | delete

Guam sounds wonderful and warm, especially to a Canadian who really doesn't like Winter! Your pictures of Guam are enchanting.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures and information about Guam. My cousin, Mary Andes, lived on Guam for many years and only recently moved back to the states. She went over as a teacher and also flew charter airplanes, I think. She loved it there, and stayed even after she retired. I wonder if you know her...wouldn't that be funny?

    Fascinating!

I used to work with a fellow from Guam - he was very homesick for it as I recall. I can see why, now. If I ever gather the coins to take an over-the-sea vacation, I think Guam will be on my list of places to see. Very nice lens!

Great stories and glimpses of what it's really like to live there! Working on my own garden in Planet California where all the plants are strange (I grew up in Amish country, Pennsylvania), I'm especially interested by the section about the plants in your back yard. It's something many people don't take time to notice, but landscape tells you the "soul" of a place. Lots more on this lens of course -- great lens, lots of original material (and a bad pun), but that caught my attention.
    Thanks, EditorDave!

I went to High School in Gaum in 1954 1955. I enjoyed it very much at that time. That was only about ten years after the war was over and they were still coming up with Japanese Soldiers who were still on the island. I would like to go back some day and take a look. The last time I was there was in 1960 via the US Navy. We made an over night stop, it had not changed much at that time. Maybe some day I will go back.

And I thought having Bananas growing in my backyard (see Growing Bananas Plants) was great - and I live in the UK !!

I never thought about Guam as a vacation destination until now. This is a wonderful lens - love the stories and photos. Seems like Guam is similar to Hawaii but not so commercially developed.

Imagine connecting with an old Guamie!!!! You got there 3 years before Ron and me (arrived 8/28/72), but you had parents to help you out!!! 'll never forget that Halloween party where you came in baggy swim shorts and a cardboard shark head! Glad to hear you met your wife there and are still a couple. Good Guam vibes! These pages are awesome, with great text and photography. See you at lunch in Walnut Creek! Esta Later!

Guam is a tropical paradise that I would love to visit. A friend who was stationed there told me of the house geckos that kept the insects down. Welcome to the Naturally Native Squids group. Don't forget to add your lens link to the appropriate plexo and vote for it.

I love you lens! 5* for you and I lensrolled you to all of my Hawaii lens. Thanks for stopping by The Big Island of Hawaii. I am glad you did or I would never have thought to look for a lens on Guam and I had friends from there many moons ago. I think, I could be wrong, that Guam is more like Hawaii was 40 years ago instead of 20. Much of the small towns on the Big Island havn't changed much, but Kona has changed tremendously with it's growth. I remember in the 60's looking at photos of Guam and it was more like Kona then.

Thank you so much for sharing I have enjoyed my visit here.

    Aloha,
    June
