Guanajuato city is a privileged corner of marvelous Mexico, which in any other part of the world would be nothing more than a mountain scene without charm or significance. But here nature was not content just to make rocks, open gullies and dig abysms. Here in a mood of original creation nature wished to create more than a simple landscape and succeeded in making the mountain scene a very impressive one of magnitude and magnificence.

This landscape of magnificent rocks and mountains, inhabited by aborigine tribes at the beginning in its early history, became universally famous during the course of the centuries. Its name, Guanajuato, whose penetrating sound reveals its plainly indigenous origin, became famous as the richest and one of the most important cities, next to the capital, in the very renowned Viceroyalty of the New Spain. And in the same way as the impressive landscape, with its magnitude and magnificence, in which it is located, Guanajuato is a marvel and an enjoyment
because here we find reality and illusion mingled intimate union. And to such an extent it is totally different from any other city.

GUANAJUATO, is one of the deeply rooted Mexican cities which have best preserved their own peculiar essence and in consequence,their authentic stateliness. It is undoubtedly for this reason that Guanajuato is one of the relics among American cities, one of the most venerable cities and one of the cities with the neatest outlines. This is why in 1988 the city was included by UNESCO in its list of places considered as World Cultural Heritage.

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION.- Guanajuato is located in the central part of Mexico being the capital of the state of the same name. Neighboring cities are Silao, Leon,Irapuato, Salamanca, Celaya in the same state. Its neighbor states are San Luis Potosi, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Michoacan and Queretaro. Its distance from Mexico City is about 400 km (250 mi). Its altitude over sea level is 2040 m (6700 ft). Its principal rivers and brooks are: brook CedeƱo, La Joya La Cebada, Llano Grande, la Hacienda; the rivers Silao, Guanajuato and el Cubo. The three principal dams are La Esperanza, La Soledad and La Presa de Mata. Most of the
territory surrounding the city is occupied by the forest called "La Sierra de Guanajuato". The principal elevations are Santa Rosa, Chichindaro, Sirena, Bufa,
and Picacho.

CLIMATE.- The city has a mildly humid template climate. The mean annual
temperature is 18.5 C.

POPULATION.- It has a population of about 130,000 inhabitants.

AIRPORT.- The International Airport of Guanajuato is located 25 minutes from
the city.

    Hello, I have a question? My ancestors come from Mexico. My dad told me that my Grandparents come from a small farming village called" Magdaleno" That's how he told me it was spelt. He said that the village was located in the mountains of the State of Guanajuato. My question is. Does anyone know if this village still exist. If it does how would I find info on it. Please help. Thanks: Anthony............
