Guitar For Beginners- What To Consider When Buying Your First Guitar

There Are A Few Key Things To Keep In Mind When Picking Out Your First Guitar.

Obviously price is the number one issue we all think about when choosing a guitar to buy. But there are a couple other things to take into account.

Laminate tops vs. natural wood. Laminate (veneer on the body of the guitar) guitars are cheaper, and easier to take care of. They don't need to be humidified. These are good for beginners and dry climates.
Natural Wood guitars- These are generally more expensive, sound a little better and require better care.

Action: Make sure the strings are close enough to the fret board so you can easily push down the strings! But too close and there will be a buzzing sound, so make sure the sound is good and it is easy to push down.

Guitar For Beginners Is Easier With A Perfectly Tuned Guitar

Give Yourself A Break and Use An Electronic Tuner

At first, playing guitar for beginners often means just picking up the guitar and giving very little thought to tuning it. I used to do the same thing. I would pick it up and start tuning it, then get frustrated and think, "it's close enough!". Of course, the guitar sounded like crap and consequently...I sounded like crap.

It kind of caused a downward spiral personally. I equated picking up the guitar with never being able to get it in tune and sounding like crap. I look back and realize that it caused me to stop trying.

I finally got an electronic tuner and everything was so much better! Now when I played chords for a song, it would sound just like the song when I played it on my CD player! Seriously, give yourself a break and just get an electronic tuner if you haven't already. They're pretty cheap.

Take An At Home Beginner Guitar Course For Best Value

There are some good at home courses that are cheaper in the long run.

If you really want to learn guitar, the right way, it is a great idea to take lessons, right? Well, if you start calculating out the cost, you may want to reconsider...

1 hour lesson= $40-50
1/2 hour lesson= $20-30

Also you need to consider that there is uneasy pressure involved with in-person lessons. I personally took lessons for 2 months, once a week. ($200/month). SO, it cost me $400 to learn the basic chords, a few scales and a couple songs. But the PRESSURE to study was killing me! I was paying this guy to teach me, so why did I feel bad if I didn't study?

That's why a good at-home course is worth every penny. You can take your time with each lesson, learning it at your pace without continuing payments!
