Out With The Old In With A New HP LaserJet 4050 Printer

Ranked #66,203 in Computers & Electronics, #1,025,528 overall

The HP LaserJet 4050 printer using LaserJet 4050 printer toner works well across almost every assessment criteria. It seems to be a printer designed to get a purchaser into a networkable workgroup monochrome laser printer for a decent price. For that price, one will be getting good print speed plus Hewlett-Packard's notable reliability and functionality, even in its lower-priced laser printers.

Say Goodbye To 'Printer Error'

The 4000 series -- of which the 4050 printer is a part -- is a workhorse lineup at Hewlett-Packard. Many are made to be upgraded, including with other capabilities and additional memory, and the 4050 is no different. This particular printer delivers 17 ppm of print speed, which usually is more than enough for typical usage demands in a small workgroup.

One can connect the 4052 to a workgroup or even to a single computer via wired technology, including a parallel port and a serial interface port. As well, there are several different slots, which can be filled with a wireless or Ethernet capability. Combined with everything else that the computer can do, this extra functionality is quite appreciated by most printer customers deciding on just what model to go for.

When it comes to print quality, anything coming from the 4050 is sure to be excellent across the board. That's because it is equipped with 1200 dpi resolution. Any printing that emerges, then, will be very detailed, rich and sharp. This capability allows the 4050 to maintain a step or two lead over many of its comparably equipped competitors out on the market.

Standard memory is adequate enough at 8 MB, but it can be increased quite easily all the way up to 200 MB. Hewlett-Packard understands that most people, will be fine with 8 MB and it's only a serious network workgroup that might need more than that. If that's the case, then have the IT specialists include additional memory.

The 4015 can also hold a relatively large amount of paper within all of its input trays. Up to 600 sheets can be stored and then accessed by the machine, including 500 sheets from its single auto-load input tray. The 4050 also can print out on a wide variety of media stock, which includes standard plain paper and a variety of transparencies, envelopes and custom sizes.

The monthly duty cycle rating for the 4050 is an excellent 65,000 pages. This means that the printer will need no maintenance until it has met or exceeded 65,000 pages of printed product in a month or over a predetermined timeframe. Since it has such a nice duty cycle at such a low price, it stands out from its peers. Additionally, it runs off of several different Windows platforms. To keep the printouts looking crisp and clear, have extra HP cartridges available.

Presently, a number of online retail sites are asking about $120 or so for the HP LaserJet 4050 printer. Price will depend on whether one is going to go for a new printer or one that's been refurbished. It features excellent print speed, good reliability and is able to be hooked up to a network quite easily. Given all that, it's hard to see much to dislike about the 4050. Most purchasers never find anything to dislike about it. As long as you keep ink and toner cartridge on hand, you won't run out of ink. HP LaserJet 4050 compatible toner is found online and in stores. Just look for HP toners and it should be easy to find.
