In 1978 John Carpenter's latest film began to tell the story of a bogeyman who was institutionalized as a child for murdering his sister on Halloween, and escaped as an adult to continue his killing spree.

The stylish low-budget film was Halloween, and the killer is Michael Myers. It would become such a hit, it not only inspired a series of sequels through the next millenium, but in 2007 the bogeyman will return in a new version directed by Rob Zombie.

Halloween on DVD

The first film starred Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, a teenage girl who lived in the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois, which was being terrorized by a masked murderer on Halloween night. Donald Pleasance played Sam Loomis, a doctor who knew he would have to hunt down Michael Myers to end his massacre.

Haddonfiled isn't a real town, but I once had a guy tell me he lived in Haddonfield, Illinois "where Halloween was filmed". It was filmed in California.

Rob Zombie Directs 2007 Halloween Movie

In 2006, Dimension Films announced that they will make a new "Halloween" movie with Rob Zombie (The Devil's Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses) writing, directing and serving as a producer. Malek Akkad of Trancas International Films (Halloween H20: 20 Years Later) produces the feature along with Andy Gould of Vision Entertainment Group (The Devil's Rejects, House of 1000 Corpses). Zombie is also music supervisor on the film. Miramax is co-financer.

Zombie's vision of this film is an entirely new take on the legend and will satisfy fans of the classic "Halloween" legacy while beginning a new chapter in the Michael Myers saga.

"Rob Zombie is a gifted musician and performer as well as a talented filmmaker," Bob Weinstein of Miramax stated. "His vision for this new 'Halloween' is spectacular and I am thrilled to be collaborating with him and to work closely with Malek Akkad to continue the legacy built by his father, the late Moustapha Akkad."

Zombie said, "I have been a huge, huge fan of John Carpenter's original film since its release. So when Bob Weinstein approached me about this, I jumped at the chance to join forces with Dimension Films on this amazing project."

Halloween III on DVD

With the boogeyman seemingly vanquished, and John Carpenter wanting to do something new, Halloween returned with a new story unrelated to the previous two films. Easily bashed by fans for simply not being a Myers film. Not a terrific film, but If you're looking for a straight-forward 80's horror movie, it's worth a look. In this story a toy company schemes to kill children on Halloween.

The Revenge of Michael Myers on DVD

Myers continues to stalk his young niece in a routine but stylish follow up, with an intriguing new character. For the first time we see a rune tattoed on Myer's arm, and a mysterious new character is introduced who bares the same mark. The figure in the trench coat ultimately seems to seek out and serve Myers. Unfortunately this was never followed up in the next film, which at one point Quentin Tarantino was going to write. Great mask in this one.

Myers' niece, Jamie Lloyd, disappeared sfter being kidnapped by druids who protect Michael Myers. Now, six years later, Jamie has escaped after giving birth to Michael's child.
