Cooking Modes
The Hamilton Beach 33967 Set 'n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker has three separate cooking modes that enable you to use either traditional (manual) slow cooking, programmable (timed automatic) slow cooking, or temperature probe automatic slow cooking.

Cooking Mode: Manual
Select manual when you want to reheat previously cooked food or to cook without programming in a cooking time. You can choose to cook on either high or low.
To keep hot food warm, choose manual mode and warm.
To keep hot food warm for a specific length of time choose program mode and warm setting, cooker will turn itself off once time has elapsed.

Cooking Mode: Program
The large digital display panel shows the desired or actual temperature settings, the heat setting (High, Low or Warm) or a countdown timer, depending on the program selected.
To program, select the cooking time. Enter the number of hours - up to 12 hours, in half-hour increments. Then select the heat setting - either High or Low. When the set time has elapsed, the cooker will shift to automatic keep warm. The unit will automatically switch off after 14 hours of operation. The keep warm function also means you don't have to worry if you are later home than expected, your dinner will still be fine. The Hamilton Beach 33967 Set 'n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker has a polished stainless steel with black accents exterior, the oval removable stoneware insert and tempered glass lid are dishwasher-proof.

The two metal side handles have plastic end grips that stay cool even when unit is in use. The lid has a rubber gasket which gives you rattle-free cooking, and plastic cool touch handle. The lid can be secured (for moving it when full) with folding stainless steel clips. There is also a serving spoon that clips easily on to the lid.

Cooking modes and timer are accessed with the digital touchpad control panel. I also recommend you consider this size for smaller families and singles to, as long as you have a little freezer space. I find it a major time and cost saver to be able to get a meal out of the freezer to reheat for dinner that night, than cook one from scratch. When I have the inclination, which is usually fueled by purchasing a quantity of discounted meat, I batch cook chicken casseroles, curries and spaghetti sauce etc so I have some for now and some to freeze for later. I always find they taste is better when reheated too.
