Skinny Hardgainer
Hi, my name is Kai. I was once around 135 lbs at 5'7 1/2". I am an ectomorph who struggled to gain muscle mass or even fat. If you are an ectomorph just like me, don't read muscle magazines! That is my biggest advice for you. You won't get big from following Ronnie Coleman routines. Those magazines are meant for mesomorphs (natural muscle-heads grr.... ) and endomorphs.
Even if you are not reading these magazines, never follow advice from people with great genetics. I know this one guy who did 100 pull ups and 500 push ups per day and is HUGE. I tried something similiar, but a lot less reps lol. I felt sore day after day with no results.
You might not know me but my friends know me very well that I can EAT. I'm talking about like two cheesesteaks, 6 full plates at the buffet, etc, and I won't get fat.
You might be thinking that I take a lot of supplements or on roids. The answer is NO. I only take whey protein, casein protein, fish oil, and multi-vitamins. Fish oil and multi-vitamins should be taken by anyone regardless if they are working out or not.
Another advice I can give you is that you need good amount of sleep like 6 hours per night. I usually try to get atleast 7 hours even thought I'm a busy college student.
Also, don't think the more days you workout, the better your results. If you are natural like me, you are better off with 3 or less days of full body training. If you are true hardgainer, go for two days a week (ex. Monday/Thursday, Tuesdays/Saturday). Keep the volume low and intensity high. Stop following magazine routines that tells you to do 3 sets of flat bench press, 3 sets incline bench press, 3 sets of flyes, 3 sets of tricep pushdown - NO!!
Make sure you stick to compound exercises such as the deadlift, squat, pull up, bench press, just to name a few. They are great for building muscle mass.
I didn't create this lens to promise you that you will gain 50 lbs of muscle mass in 2 months. This lens is for ectomorphs to get an idea that it is possible to build muscles without steroids or expensive supplements. It takes a lot of dedication and motivation. I am not a personal trainer but please feel free to e-mail me at chinesemuscles@gmail.com for a few tips and advice.

Building Muscle Mass for a Hardgainer
I didn't give up on myself, so I went on Google and browsed around to see how other hardgainers build muscles. I found this website and I was in absolute shock to find out that skinny hardgainers have a completely different approach to building muscles. You don't need to juice, spend thousands of dollars in supplements, or long hours in the gym. Throw out all your muscle magazines, and sign up for Vince Del Monte's program. You'll be surprised to experience strength gains, more muscle mass, less time in the gym, and more time to enjoy life!

Kai, your info is solid. For people with your type of metabolism it is definitely a "less is more" game. I've had several clients that I've had to cut their workouts in half to get them to start growing. Remember: Stimulate, don't annihilate! Posted June 11, 2008 |
