2010 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Champs!
(taken from my school e-newsletter)

Sarah Stansell (HSU #17, left), a senior defender from Hardin-Simmons, is the recipient of the Elite88 award for the 2010 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. The finance major currently carries a 4.0 gpa. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.
Women's soccer player Amy Kuykendall (HSU #9, below) has been named as the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for women's soccer. The senior accounting major (3.98 gpa) became the ASC's all-time leading goal scorer during the season. The honor recognizes student-athletes who achieve a higher level of academic achievement while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team.
Hardin-Simmons women's soccer coach Marcus Wood has been named, for the third time, as the West Region Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He was also named as the American Southwest Conference coach of the year for the sixth time. Wood has posted a record of 198-24-19 in 11 seasons at HSU.
HSU finished the season with an unblemished 24-0-1 record. The one tie was in the semifinals when HSU advanced on penalty kicks. The NCAA title is the first for Hardin-Simmons since joining Division III in the 1996-97 school year.
I LOVE HSU!
I attended HSU in 1996 after graduation from high school. I loved HSU from the start. The classes were small enough that I got to know most of the people in them as well as the professors. My first year, I lived in the freshman girls' dorm. I loved living there and having all of my friends near me. It was interesting adjusting to college life, but being in the dorms was really helpful--even though we had to eat in the cafeteria. The food isn't really that bad, I'm just kind of picky!!
I loved living in the dorm so much that I decided to become an RA (Resident Advisor). I interviewed and got the job!! I loved being an RA. I was on the top floor and had 65 girls on my hall. As an RA, I had duty on the weekend 2 times a month and 1-2 nights a week. This was pretty fun because I got to know so many of the residents.
I loved being an RA so much my first year, that I decided to stay on at the dorm for a second year as an RA. I loved being an RA! My best friend, Sandra, also became an RA this year, so we had a lot of fun together!
My senior year at HSU, Sandra and I got an apartment off campus. This was pretty fun and we were able to cook what we wanted, which we really enjoyed. Abilene wasn't the most fun town, but it was good enough for us--Plus we lived near Taco Bueno!!
My major in college was Secondary Education and Spanish. I got a BA in Spanish and had a teacher internship instead of student teaching. This enabled me to get started a little early. I was able to get to know my advisor teachers very well and most of the staff on campus.
I really loved the feel of the college. Many of my friends are from college and I know we'll stay in touch in the years to come.
I am so thankful that I was able to go to a college that was faith-based. We were required to go to chapel for the first 4 semesters which was okay. Sometimes they had great speakers. One of my favorite things was that professors would sometimes pray before class and always shared things with a Biblical backing. I also had Old Testament and New Testament classes as well as a few ministry classes. I believe this is one of the reasons I pursued mission work.
Anyway, if you have any questions about HSU, please feel free to ask! I really enjoyed my time there and look fondly on all my memories. I would recommend it to anyone!!!
