Harlequin Mills and Boon Romances

Ranked #59 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #1,856 overall

Harlequin Mills and Boon Fan Site

I love reading Mills and Boon books. I know! Politically incorrect women's fiction. But better fun than reading a magazine or watching a soap opera. And so reasonably priced too (usually about £3.19 in the UK). In the USA, these books are known as Harlequin novels and they cost about $4.75 new.

Mills and Boon celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2008 - read this brief history of Mills and Boon to see how romance novels have changed over the years.

To visit the Mills and Boon website, click Mills & Boon

I'm going to review some of the Harlequin romances and give them a rating, so you can find the best romance novels. The Harlequin book reviews are arranged by author - click on the links to read the reviews. They have a lot of imprints - I mostly read the Harlequin presents and Silhouette Desire novels, but also dip into the tender romances when the mood takes me.

I update this page whenever I read a new book - as you can tell, I have favourite authors (Emma Darcy, Miranda Lee, Lynne Graham) where I've read loads of novels, and others whom I'm just trying out. If you know of an author who is particularly good, but whom I haven't reviewed, leave a note in the comments.

Official Harlequin Presents Blog

Yes, Mills and Boon have an official blog for their "Modern" line (in the USA, known as Harlequin Presents). The blog is called I(Heart)Presents

I would definitely recommend fans to visit and there are plenty of articles on there by Mills and Boon authors. The blog is basically a romance fest!

Offficial Harlequin Tender Romances Blog

Just as the "presents" series has an official blog, so too does the tender romance series. This blog is not as lively as the "presents" blog, but worth a read as the authors often write about their writing experiences.

To read the blog, click here.

Update: the authors of Medical Romances now also have a blog. Click here to read it. There is also a new Harlequin blog which deals with all things Harlequin.

Writing for Harlequin

If you are an aspiring romance writer, you don't need an agent, you can submit your manuscript directly to Harlequin. They are one of the few publishing houses to read unsolicited manuscripts. On their website, they very helpfully lay out their publishing guidelines, which provide detailed guidelines of exactly what they are looking for in each category of romance, how to format your manuscript, and how to submit your novel. They also have a Writing community forum where you can ask questions and talk to the editors and other authors (published and unpublished) and generally discuss the craft of writing.

From time to time, Harlequin run writing competitions to find new authors: the last one was in 2009. The contests are usually announced in their I Heart presents blog (see above)

I love this site. Found it while browsinng. Have read Harlequins since the seventies and love them - they are relaxing and I remind my husband that I don't watch television and do read heavier genres, so give me a break. I will check in to see what others are saying. Maybe I will get help with a title that I am trying to recall.
