Tune in to Harmony Channel

This isn't your great-great-grandparents barbershop quartet!

These guys like to sing all sorts of stuff, from 50's style, show tunes, Beach boys, Beetles, and yes, even a song by Lovin' Spoonful.  Did I mention that they are crazy enough to even sing a bit of opera, (but with a slightly different twist).  Our blog, (see link below), has our performance schedule and other information.

Who Are These Guys?

Harmony Channel, an acappella quartet, is based out of the Ventura, California area, (see "Where is Ventura" below).

With their roots firmly planted in the barbershop style of music, they enjoy singing all shorts of popular music. Here they are singing inside of the Timpanogos Cave. The bats didn't seem to mind at all.

Harmony Channel is:

  • Bruce Hunter - Lead
  • Doug Vanbogolen - Bari
  • Brent Burningham - Bass
  • Duane Ashby - Tenor

How It All Started

Once upon a time....

Bruce and Doug were singing in a quartet called "Channel Four" which disbanded in 1989. For almost a year, they wandered the deserted wasteland of a song-less existence until they happened across Brent Burningham, who was then singing with a quartet called "4 Goodness Sake". (Don't you just love the corny names?)

In a daring bit of perfidiousness, (its a real word, look it up), they snatched Brent and carried him off to their secret lair, where they were joined by Kurt Mallory, (tenor), and late in 1990 they formed "Harmony Channel". (It all sounds pretty exciting doesn't it?). OK, maybe perfidiousness is a bit strong, but they did definitely inscribe his services. (Check your Thesaurus.)

In 1991, Kurt moved on to other ventures and was replaced by Steve Dorn who sang with the quartet until 1993. Steve had enough by then and struck out eastward in hopes of finding some relief. (We think he is hiding out somewhere near Atlanta).

Steve was replaced by Paul Jacobson who sang with the quartet until 1997 when he finally got fed up with them and took a full time job as a music pastor for his church. (He is way too talented to be hanging out with these guys anyway!)

Once again, Brent, Bruce, and Doug wandered through a song-less wasteland until August of 1998 when, with a little help from a gypsy, a hypnotist, and some silly putty, they managed to bamboozle Duane Ashby into joining the quartet.

Now, 11 years later, these four guys have been singing together for, well, over 11 years!
