Read them all. Took just 3 days per volume, I couldn't put them down!
I saw the movies before reading the books... the books are waaaaaay better than the movies. There is so much more in the books that never made it into the movies, plus Snape is in the books a lot more than he is in the movies, and Snape is my favorite character.
Though, had anyone other than Alan Rickman played Snape, I probably would not have become a fan of the movies, and would never have read the books. And well, we all 4 of us found one mistake that stand out for this lens: Snape's hair. In the book he is teased constantly for his hair, which it a very long and very wild unruly mess which he hasn't washed in years. In the movie, however, Snape has gorgeous hair.
Twice now in my rabid serial book reading, I have come up against an author who tormented my favorite character. First Rowling slaughters Snape, than Rumiko breaks Sesshomaru's heart. The curse of falling for the bad guy is when the book ends the bad guys never get a happily ever after. :(
P.S. Sorry, for those who have not yet read the book and didn't know she killed off Snape, now you know, he did not make it to the end and I was not happy about it.
