THIRD TIME'S A CHARM!
Once you decide the theme of the party and the venue, then you have to decide what to do about decorations, food, activities, and gift bags. I went searching around the internet and turns out that there are some really cute ideas out there.
Make sure to check out my list of links below to see where most of the great ideas came from!

INVITATIONS PLUS A "LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE"
Catch people's attention
In 2008, every single person invited came to the party; I think in part because of my invitation and letter of acceptance on the backside. INEXPENSIVE DECORATIONS
* In 2008, I got smart and went cheap. The colors were purple, green, and yellow. I bought table cloths, plates, balloons, and streamers in those colors at the dollar store.* I made "jelly bean goblets" out of empty 16 oz. water bottles. Cut off the bottom, turn the top over and glue to the bottom to make a goblet. Fill with jelly beans. See picture - goblet at each place setting. It added lots more color to the table.
* Platform 9 3/4 poster placed outside the birthday room. I used the foamies to cut out the letters. Then printed off the Hogwarts emblem to add to each side. (Pay no attention to the place the rabbit chewed off this summer in the bottom lefthand corner - oops!) Harry Potter Party Decorations
FUN WITH FOOD, TREATS & REFRESHMENTS
- * Platters of sandwiches cut into quarters; ham and cheese & turkey and cheese.
* Fruit skewers - small green grapes and cut up pieces of pineapple, strawberries, honeydew and canteloupe placed on lollipop sticks.
* Potato chips.
* Licorice "wands". Grape licorice (instead of black) with one end dipped in white chocolate. Two canisters placed right inside the door as kids came in.
* Witches brew. Sprite plus lime sherbert. I bought four cauldrons at the craft store for a dollar, labeled them "Witches Brew".
INSTEAD OF BIRTHDAY CAKE . . . WIZARD HAT CUPCAKES!
They come in chocolate and vanilla. The hat is a sugar cone dipped in chocolate and decorated with lightning bolts and stars
NICE HARRY POTTER GIFTS FOR KIDS
ACTIVITIES...BESIDES BOWLING
* Badges - Made badges out of foamies with a picture of each house pasted to it, hanging on a piece of yarn. Each kid picked one out of a hat as they arrived. My daughter held the hat. It gave her a chance to welcome each kid to the party.
* Face Painting. The kids had a blast with this. My 15-year-old niece agreed to draw various Harry Potter stuff on the kids' faces. Brooms, lightning-bolt scars, slytherin snake, witches hat, and much, much more! GIFT BAGS . . . I MIGHT'VE GONE OVERBOARD IN 2008
Make sure to check out my links list; those sites deserve the credit for most of these ideas.
* Chocolate Frog Cards. Six different cards made: Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore, Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, Salazar Slytherin. I bought a frog mold and included a chocolate frog in each card.
* Pencil wands. These are really fun. Just attach raffia to the top of a pencil with double-stick tape, wind some kind of wire-ribbon around it and Voila! You got yourself a cute little wand. If desired, label each one with different wand names, such as "Firebolt", or "Nimbus 2000".
* White chocolate owl lollipops. Bought a mold of an owl and made little Hedwig's on a stick!
* Harry Potter pins. I bought the clear pins at the craft store and printed various Harry Potter images from the "Order of the Phoenix" movie to make the pins.
What do you think about my daughter's Harry Potter party?
