HAVE YOU EVER HAD A PET BUZZARD

Why Would Anyone Want A Pet Buzzard
I never would have dreamed of having a pet buzzard even in my wildest dreams ! A wild buzzard just showed up one day and hung around for a couple of weeks until either one of two things happened. I'm still not sure which it was ! He or she had not learned to fly or he couldn't fly due to injury. There is a pipeline about a mile downriver from our home where the buzzards "hang out". This pipeline goes over the river way up high and that is why the buzzards stay there I guess. Sometimes they fly in big circles way up high --so high at times that they look like bugs instead of birds. I think they must raise their young close by and I guess that this lone buzzard must have gotten separated from the rest.
Was Buzzy really a Pet or just an uninvited guest
One day the dogs started barking like crazy! I knew it wasn't the neighbor or the mail carrier driving by because of the tone of their barking. I went out on the porch and looked around and saw this buzzard just hopping around. My son and I lured him into a big pet carrier with some chicken necks I had in the freezer. He was very hungry. We kept him in that carrier for a couple of days until it started stinking -- if you get my drift ! I didn't know what else to do with him, so we just opened the door on the carrier and let him out. I could tell by just looking at him that he wasn't sick because he ate well. We went about our business and that afternoon when I went to gather the eggs and close up the henhouse for the night to keep out predators I had a startling surprise ! That buzzard -- by this time I had named him "Buzzy Buzzard" -- was sitting on the roost sleeping beside my chickens!!!Every one was calm and sleeping, so I just left him there and was wondering "who" would believe me if I told anyone! He stayed around for a couple of weeks and went into the henhouse every night and we kept him well fed with store bought chicken necks and backs. He would go "sightseeing" during the day. Sometimes he would go down to the river and hop along in the neighbor's pasture.
The neighbors thought it was kind of weird to have a pet buzzard -- at least he didn't hang around on their roofs, lurking and watching them --- waiting --- lol ! He just didn't come back one day. I kind of missed him for a while. I choose to believe that he is one of those buzzards that I see flying way up high and enjoying the view and looking down and thinking that is where those nice people live that helped me out when I needed it !
Buzzards are interesting even if they are kind of ugly.
Buzzards have a job to do -- I'm glad it's not mine.
Buzzards play an important part in keeping our highways clean of those poor critters that can't move fast enough to get across to the otherside. It is all part of a big plan to rid the world of unwanted waste. Think about how many poor deer die in the forests and pastures that the hunters can't find. If the wolves and coyotes don't eat them, then I would rather the buzzards clean up the mess than have a camper or fisherman come across it in about a week or so! UGH ! Just warming up in the sunshine with the rest of the gang.
The Life of a Buzzard.
Just " hang out with the guys" and wait for lunch.

- Lol...I love the idea of having a buzzard as a wild pet. How truly wonderful that would indeed be (amusing too).

- Interesting story! There is a pair of turkey vultures that nest in a large old tree near our property, but I'm glad that they do not come down for a visit!

- We have turkey vultures here and I like them. They soar so gracefully and keep the lakeshore clean. But, they are very shy of people.
