• Make sure the suction line is free of obstructions


• Rule out any air leaks on the suction side of the pump


• Check the impeller and make sure it's still attached to the shaft of the motor. If broken, the impeller will need to be replaced
  


• If the pump is installed a distance from the pool or is elevated above the normal deck level, the time required to prime the pump could be longer. For elevated installations, a check valve might be required on the suction line to allow for easier priming.

Your pump should be located in an area with adequate drainage to prevent future flooding problems that could result from rain or other types of water sources.

Rule out possible water damage

Check the power, switches, breaker and additional power sources to confirm your pump is properly electrically powered. A volt meter is needed to check voltage.

Hayward manufacturer recommends that you communicate with a certified Electrician for any electrical repairs

Stabilize the rotor and remove the impeller counterclockwise.
You can carefully insert a screwdriver through the motor casing at the front against the cooling fin of the rotor that will stop the shaft from turning.

The spring is part of the seal kit that you will need to replace. Take a pic of the seal so you can remember how it goes back on when you replace the bearings (if you are doing this yourself )

If you are not doing this yourself let the folks who are replacing the bearings remove the impeller ...they will also install the new seal.

If you are replacing the entire motor, then you don't have to be so careful... but you will need a seal.
