1.Know your reasons and your goals
The first thing you need to do before going on a diet is to know exactly why you want to be slimmer. Your diet plan depends on your goals.
For example, if you need to lose weightfor health reasons you'll need to go on a diet that makes substantial changes to your lifestyle and eating habits. On the other hand, a different plan is needed if you only need to lose a few pounds for a party.

2.Be realistic
Most of us expect to lose 10 pounds in a week and get frustrated when that doesn't happen.

It's perfectly normal to not lose any weight for weeks on end on a diet. Plus it is extremely unhealthy to lose more than 2 pounds a week. Make small, manageable goals and increase them as you go (like, losing half a pound a week at first and increasing this to 2 pounds after a few months).

3.Eat healthy and stay fit
For yourdiet to work it needs to be well balanced and nutritious. Know that your body needs all kinds of nutrients - even carbs and fats. You simply need to eat them in moderation, instead of cutting them out altogether.
This is the reason why fad diets are difficult to maintain in the long run - they just don't give your body the things it needs.

4.Change your lifestyle
If you want to maintain your weight loss , get rid of the unhealthy habits that made you put on weight in the first place. You can do this in ways like:

Getting active: This is one guaranteed way to get trim fast. You don't need to spend hours in the gym for this. Go for a walk after meals or take up an energetic activity that you find fun - a sport or martial art or even dancing!

Shopping wisely: The right shopping list will really help you lose weight. Make a shopping list and stick to it. Go grocery shopping when you're in a hurry or fix a time limit. This way you'll dawdle less and only buy what you really need.

Eating right: Get out of the habit of opening up a pack of chips or a can of beer when you want a snack. To really drop 10 poonds, you need to switch to healthier alternatives such as fresh fruit and nuts or smoothies.

5.Reward yourself
Don't forget to reward yourself every time you successfully complete a goal.
But don't do it in the form of food. Instead of a triple sundae, go shopping for new clothes to fit the thinner you or pamper yourself at a spa.
This will actually motivate you to work further towards your goal losing weight
