Being the largest city in both Illinois and the entire Midwest region of the U.S., means that, in order to serve its large population,Chicago has to have a good number of medical facilities. This means that there are a large number of jobs in the area for those looking for healthcare jobs.

In fact, healthcare is considered one of the fastest growing industries in Chicago. Other rapidly expanding areas of employment in the city include: information technology, urban planning and education.

As of the last Census Bureau report, approximately 2,869,121 people live in Chicago. About 71.8 percent of the area's population has a high school diploma (or its equivalent). Of those 25.5 percent have at least a Bachelor's degree, although some of these individuals also posses graduate degrees. The median household income is currently around $38,625, which is slightly lower than the national average of $44,334.
