Keep Your Feet Healthy

Great Feet for Life: Footcare and Footwear for Healthy Aging

Healthy feet provide the foundation for healthy aging. This is the first foot care book that is written exclusively for those aged 50 and over. Written by a podiatrist, it describes the changes that occur to our feet as we age and addresses the most common sources of foot pain such as nail conditions, skin conditions, heel spurs, bunions, and swelling. Detailed, illustrated, step-by-step instructions are given for self-care of skin and nails, and a thorough discussion of footwear provides invaluable information on selecting the right shoes to prevent foot pain.

Studies show that 80% of people over 50 have at least one medical condition of the feet. Think of all the common activities that would be uncomfortable for someone with persistent foot pain: golfing, watching parades (or any other event that require standing for a long time), sightseeing while on vacation---even walking around the grocery store once a week could be uncomfortable. Limited mobility due to foot pain can also lead to other problems, including weight gain and increased social isolation.

If peppermint leaves my feet feeling smooth and tingly sure. What properties does peppermint have in soothing your feet though, is it just the sensation you get when you eat the candy?

I really, really want a peppermint foot soak so I'll just have to go get myself a peppermint plant or two and put them in a garden! I'll do it Monday. I'll get lots so I don't have to wait very long. I know they can take over a garden but I've got tons of room. Thanks for thinking of this, Robin!

I have a patch of mint that I started down by our creek. I hope it spreads and overtakes the tall grass that grows down there. I freeze it or dry it and use it in my Stuffed Grape Leaves recipe. Need to learn how to make mint tea too and now a foot bath! Hadn't thought of that. Such a versatile herb!
  • Heather426 May 13, 2009 @ 4:18 pm | delete
