Hip Hop Dance Music History

Hip hop dance music has been around in one form or another for quite some time. The genre made it's first appearance in New York City in the early 1970's believe it or not. There were 'funk' styles of hip hop music that evolved on the west coast at about the same time.

These seperate forms of hip hop music and dance had many things in common, such as their improvisational natures. It was most likely the improvisational nature of hip hop that attracted street dancers and eventually the art form became a legitimate sub-culture.

The hip hop dance music genre developed further in the 1980's when some new dance styles appeared. The music itself actually underwent some minor changes because some new dance styles sprouted.

Much of the present day hip hop dance has become more aggressive, probably reflecting changes in American culture. While break dancing is still popular, newer styles rely more on 'upright' movement instead of the original 'ground moves'. Clown walking and krumping are examples of the newer style hip hop.

Hip hop dance music and the styles from the 1980's until today are sometimes referred to as 'new school' while the styles from the 1970s, are called old school. However these classifications are not necessarily universally accepted in the hip hop community.

There is one thing for certain about hip hop music, it ignites a desire to let loose, dance and show your stuff!

Hip Hop Dance Music Sharing Dangers

The Lawsuit Happy Recording Industry

If you are considering downloading your hip hop dance music from questionable or illegal file sharing sites, I have one word of advice...DON'T! The recording industry has filed several thousand lawsuits in recent years over this practice.

If you make or own unauthorized copies of copyrighted music recordings, you're stealing, according R.I.A.A.'s website. In fact, in 2007 a federal jury ordered a female defendant to pay $220,000 to the big record companies. That award worked out to more than $9,000 for each song she was accused of sharing with her friends.

The recording industry is now also claiming that it is illegal for a person who has legally purchased a music CD to transfer that music into his or her own computer. And they have filed lawsuits over it. After years of warnings the recording industry appears to be living up to their promise of cracking down.

So what's a person to do? Whether it's country, classical, rock, hip hop dance music, or any other genre, it seems like the smartest way to get your tunes is from a reputable website that charges a fee. Many pay music download sites will allow you to download digital music files for a one time fee.

The advantage to doing this is that you can legally transfer the country, rock, classical or hip hop dance music to your own computer and play them anytime you wish. Once you sign up you will have access to an extensive library of fully licensed music.

Some of the better download sites have great customer service, guarantees, and a trial
period so you can try out their service before you buy. One of the top rated Hip hop dance music download sites is 'Beats365'. They have a wide variety of music genres available and the price is so low you can afford it even if you only download a few tunes per year.

My advise is to completely avoid downloading your music from questionable, shady, unscrupulous, or file sharing websites. It's just not worth the risk or the consequences.

Hip Hop Dance Music

Three Decades Old And Going Strong

The growing popularity of hip hop dance music definitely came as a shock to older people. When rap made it's debut in the 70's, it was condemned by the older generation, who thought it was just another sign of the ultimate decline of Western civilization.

Whether there's any truth to the argument or not is debatable, but the fact remains that hip hop is the music of choice for teens and young adults. All you have to do is travel down any street in America and you will be convinced of this fact for yourself.

Have you ever sat at a red light and heard the music being played loudly in the car next to you? Yes, the beat that permeates and vibrates nearly everything within a quarter mile radius is the sound of rap or hip hop.

If you're over 40 you may not understand the attraction. But you have to admit that your parents didn't "get" Elvis, The Stones, The Sex Pistols or whatever band was popular during your youth. And let's face it, the world didn't come to an end because of the of the music that was popular during your younger days.

The reality is, rap and hip hop dance music have made their way into movies, popular TV shows and are even being used successfully in the diet and body building industry - ala Hip Hop Abs, a very popular fitness program these days. You'll even hear rap and hip hop being played at major sporting events these days because of the high energy, adrenaline pumping sound.

Yes, the rap and hip hop genres of music are more than a 30 years old now, and they are not going anywhere. So you may as well fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride, it may be a bit bumpy but it will also be a lot of fun.
