Getting it right for God
PORTENTOUS WARNING: If you're one of those folks that cannot stand those [insert eyeroll here] "Bible Thumpin' Christians", you may wish to find a different place to be, lest you find yourself accidentally beaned (well okay, it might be on purpose :o) I only thought it fair to tell you right up front, 'cause you just never know...
Perhaps I should state for the record that I do not believe in either luck or coincidence. They are, of course, marvelous concepts, (especially when it comes to winning lottery tickets) but you just can't hang on to them if you're going to believe in God the whole 100%. If you believe [as I do] in the Divine Providence of God, then there simply isn't room for luck or coincidence in the equation (and it sure did take me an awfully long time to figure that out).
Why did I create this lens? Well, I suppose you might say I had a "revelation" of my own one Sunday morning. I was talking to some friends at church about how often horses (my favorite subject) were mentioned throughout scripture and it suddenly dawned on me how important horses actually were in the bible. Not only are they used to bring about the end of time as we know it via the Four Horsemen, but Jesus himself returns to Earth on the back of a white horse! I could not wait to get home and investigate the idea a little further...
My tally of animals straight out of the Concordance
From the NIV Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible [Zondervan]

When you stop to consider the symbolism (that "lamb" is also used to represent Jesus, "sheep" to represent His followers and not the actual animals), and "snake/serpent" represents evil the numbers are even more interesting!
A personal note on Psalm 37:4
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."

Several years ago, I made a conscious decision to finally stop playing at being a Christian and get serious about it. Interestingly enough, it was not too long after I finally put my motivation where my mind was (so to speak) that my husband suddenly had enough money to surprise me with a horse at Christmas; something I have dreamed of since the age of 4. The fact is, the man had been trying for over TEN YEARS to save up enough money on the sly and never could quite get there. I decide to straighten up for the Lord, then BOOM the money was there. Luck? Coincidence? I think not :o)
We now have nine such beautiful blessings, three of them are pictured above, (left to right: Bella, Lady and Rina).
The Ultimate Honor
from the book of Esther 6:6, 6:9 NIV Study Bible

..."What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?" ...Have them bring a royal robe the king has worn and a horse the king has ridden...lead him on the horse through the city streets...
Painting: "Triumph of Mordecai"
by Pieter Lastman in 1624
A poetic tribute
From Song of Songs 1:9 NIV Study Bible

I liken you, my darling, to a mare harnessed to one of the chariots of Pharaoh...
The Lord Speaks of Horses (my favorite)
from the Book of Job 39:19-25 NIV Study Bible

Do you give the horse his strength or clothe his neck with a flowing mane? Do you make him leap like a locust, striking terror with his proud snorting? He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength, and charges into the fray. He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; he does not shy away from the sword, The quiver rattles against his side along with the flashing spear and lance. In frenzied excitement he eats up the ground; he cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds. At the blast of the trumpet he snorts, "Aha!" He catches the scent of battle from afar...
Strength and Fury
from the Book of Jeremiah 8:16

The snorting of the enemy's horses is heard from Dan; at the neighing of their stallions the whole land trembles.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocolypse
From the Book of Revelations (NIV Study Bible)

Revelations 6:2

I looked and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest...
Revelations 6:4
Then another horse came out, a fiery red one! Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other...
Revelations 6:5

I looked and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand...
Revelations 6:8

I looked and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death...
The Return of Jesus
From the Book of Revelations [NIV Study Bible]

When you think about people today and their animals, you generally think in terms of cats and dogs, right? Take a moment, then, to consider how they are viewed in the bible: I don't remember reading about cats (except the lion) and Jezebel was quite literally "thrown to the dogs", (a lowly fate).
Not only are horses equated with riches in a King's stable, they are entrusted with apocalyptic tasks and considered worthy enough to bear Jesus upon His return to Earth.
Pretty darn awesome, huh?
Revelations 19:11

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse whose rider is called Faithful and True...

- I am, I am!
I have always been attracted to horses though I've never owned one, perhaps it was something of God calling to my inner being. Very nicely done!

- Yes I am and not ashamed to proclaim the name of my Lord Jesus. I have a question about picture you downloaded about Jeus coming back based on Rev 19. I belong to a music group who just finished recording our first CD and would love a copy of that print for our album cover. Our album lead song is based on that scripture. Any idea how we could obtain a legal copy of that print at a reasonable price to use? Thanks, Dennis
