Nothing Like the Light of the Full Moon

I want to share a neat tip with train hobbyists that they may not realize is available.

Moonlight colored bulbs to shine over your city when in the dark.

They have actually been out for 10 years or so, but they have greatly improved and become Cheaper. I was pleasantly surprised to see the improvement when I recently looked them up.

Yes! Moonlight Over Your Train Scene

Not from the train hobby sources

My goal is to build a train scene that is mostly forest, mountains with tunnels for the train, and a lighthouse over looking some water. Much like our coast here in Washington State. A moonlight would be part of the set up.

I got the idea from working in the fish department at a pet store. They came out with a moonlight for the corals to help them get the lighting they would in nature.

Back then the light bulbs were about $30 each plus you had to buy a fixture. They also came out with one for the reptiles, but the heat they put out may be too much for the train set, and also the color wears off quickly.

If you have ever been to the nocturnal section of the zoo and seen the moonlit rooms, you know what I mean. It's dark, but has the look of when the moon is full. Imagine that over your train scene!

A Moonlit Night by the Ocean Side Tracks

While looking over a cliff that falls into the ocean, far into the forested mountains behind me a train woos it's presence to the tiny town south a ways.

It is night with a mild clean breeze, the moonlight plumes a light blue hue over everything. Just a little bit north of me is a lighthouse shining it's light towards the expanse of the ocean.

The train woos again, it is closer, and the head light of the front engine shines like a star thru the trees.

Below a swishing sound as some sea creature stirs making bright moonlit waves.

The passenger car's lit silhouettes flash in and out thru the trees, and the moon's beams show off the shape of the shiny metal roofs that regular darkness hides, then the trains disappears into a nearby tunnel.

I am so grateful for the details the moon lets me see this night.

Simple New MoonLight Fixtures

These are what I found. single LED Moonlights with clips.

What a difference in technology in just a few years, and a very nice change.

Instead of buying a long 24" fixture or longer, now they have this that just clips up somewhere over the area. Which is even more moon-like anyways.
