The easy answer to why invest in Real Estate is that it is Real Property.   Real Estate is something you can own, touch, live in, improve, and resell.   Real Estate increases at a slower rate sometimes than some other investments but it rarely goes down (Real Estate decreased nationwide only 2 years out of the last 40 - this year being one of the two.).  

It is probably the safest investment on earth!

It is something we all understand to some degree because we all live in Homes.

It is something everyone needs!

Because it is such a safe investment - it can be leveraged thru the use of mortgage loans!  

A couple of friends and I have started Home Investment Forums designed to create a community of people interested in investing in Homes and other forms of Real Estate.   We have designed them so that they are not just sales plugs but are a free resource for individuals interested in ways to invest and captilize on the investments they already have.  We feel like there is a need for this as most of the investment forums are geared too heavily toward self promotion and don't give an opportunity to interact naturally with other investors and professionals.   These forums will include on going disscussions about acquisition, legal issues, investment strategies, landlording, books and educational resources, selling strategies and other matters the communties are interested in.    They will also contain libraries of investor related articles designed to be free resources to kick start home investment opportunities.   One National Real Estate Forum and one local Georgia Real Estate Forum are already operating.
