Save Money At Home

There are lots of way to save money at home. With the rise of inflation and the cost of gas, we are all looking to save money on the every day items of life.

Two of our main areas where we can save money are Grocery Shopping and our Utilities. There are some easy and simple habits that we can acquire that can help lower our grocery bills and utility bills.

I hope that these tips will help you save money!!

Save Money Grocery Shopping

Have you noticed the cost of Groceries lately? I know that my grocery bill has gone up and up, two teenage boys and lots of friends, should sum.

Saving Money Grocery Shopping is more than just clipping coupons.
  • Use Coupons and Store Flyers. I do not shop unless I check the flyers, make my lists and go through my coupons. I save at least 40% every time I grocery shop.
  • Don't shop if you are hungry. You are more apt to impulse shop and buy more.
  • Use a list. Buy only the items on the list and nothing else. Avoid things that "catch" your eye.
  • Sale Items. Are they really on sale? Sale items are placed at the end of the aisles to "catch" your eye. Know your prices.
  • Check Your Receipt or watch as the Cashier rings up your order. Make sure that you get the correct price for your sale or free items and that all coupons have been deducted.
  • Do you have a Frequent Shopper Card. Almost all grocery stores now offer a VIP type card. Use it and accumulate your points for special offers or free grocery products.
  • Avoid Pre-Made purchases Pre-Made products cost more and you are better off making them yourself.
  • Buying in Bulk used to be less expensive, check the price. Sometimes it less expensive to buy the smaller box or single items, such as dog food.
  • Know your Prices. If you know your prices, you will easily be able to spot a "deal". If an item is on sale, stock up on it, but don't overspend. Do local grocery stores offer their circulars online? Check before you shop, so you know which store has what on sale.
  • Grocery stores are set up to attract you to the more expensive items. Look for the sales and the best priced items, sometimes they are not within your reach. You have to look for them.
  • Buy Generic. Buying store brands for flour, sugar, etc can be an added savings for you.

How To Lower Your Electric Bills

Did you know that every blue light shining at night is costing you money? That leaving your phone charger plugged in is costing you money?

There are some easy ways to lower your electric and heating bills.
  • Turn off lights when you leave a room. Easy to do, sometimes hard to remember.
  • Keep you air conditioning and heating unit filter clean, change them every 3 months. Not only will this keep your air clean but will have your AC/Heating unit run more efficiently but will prolong the life of your unit.
  • Use energy saving bulbs, these bulbs last longer and use less energy.
  • Use dimmers, if possible inside and motion sensors outside.
  • Unplug any chargers and any electrical item you don't use consistently. I unplugged all the lights in my home that we don't use regularly.
  • Use power strips and unplug them at night before you go to bed.
  • When using your dishwasher, use the energy saving cycle and only run your dishwasher when full. Do not use the heat dry.
  • When doing laundry Make sure you are washing a full load and use the energy saving setting or short cycle. By using cold water you can save up to 8 cents on every load, and your clothes will still come out clean.
  • When using your dryer, make sure you are drying a full load By using the dryer's moisture sensor, your dryer will not over run.
  • Use an electric thermostat and set it for evenings and days and adjust according to the season. Programming your thermostat to give your air conditioner a break for the eight hours you're at work could save you about $180 a year, according to EnergyStar.gov guidelines. Since I am in my office most of the time, I purchased a small heater and now I don't have to heat the whole house when no one else is home.

    "Check Your Receipt
Or watch as the Cashier rings up your order. Make sure that you get the correct price for your sale or free items"
I think this is the most important tip in this lens, as many times the cashier makes mistakes and by the time you get home, you do not want to go back to the store.

Great article. This tips are not encourage saving, but on the other hand put inflation in check.

Never underestimate all this small stuff. It is well warned by Ben Franklin "Beware of little expenses; a small leak will sink a great ship." Hope that we can use it as our guiding principle.
