Calling all with Scottish connections, you are invited to ...
A year-long celebration of Scotland's culture - Homecoming Scotland 2009 is planned for 2009, the 250th anniversary of our national bard, Robert Burns.
The year long event celebrates Scotland's culture and contributions to the World - Golf, Whisky, The Scottish Enlightenment and Innovation.
Scots culture and heritage has spread far around the World as a quick search on You Tube for pipe bands will soon show you, indeed one of the most eagerly anticipated events is bound to be the World Highland Games championship to be held close to the iconic Scottish Parliament building, in Holyrood Park.
I will try to give a flavour of what is to come in this lens but I strongly urge anyone interested to check out the links given here for more information.

Caledonia
Homecoming Scotland advert version
I don't know if you can see.the changes that have come over me
In these last few days I've been afraid
I might drift away
So I've been telling old stories, singing songs
That make me think about where I came from.
That's the reason why I seem, so far away today.
Let me tell you that I love you, and I think about you all the time.
Caledonia, you're calling me, now I'm going home
now I'm going home.

- full song lyrics
CaledoniaI don't know if you can see
The changes that have come over me
In these last few days I've been afraid
That I might drift away
So I've been telling old stories, singing songs
That make me think about where I came from
And that's the reason why I seem
So far away today
Oh, but let me tell you that I love you
That I think about you all the time
Caledonia you're calling me
And now I'm going home
If I should become a stranger
You know that it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything
I've ever had
Now I have moved and I've kept on moving
Proved the points that I needed proving
Lost the friends that I needed losing
Found others on the way
I have kissed the ladies and left them crying
Stolen dreams, yes there's no denying
I have traveled hard with coattails flying
Somewhere in the wind
(Chorus)
Now I'm sitting here before the fire
The empty room, the forest choir
The flames that could not get any higher
They've withered now they've gone
But I'm steady thinking my way is clear
And I know what I will do tomorrow
When the hands are shaken and the kisses flow
Then I will disappear
(Chorus)

- Not being Scottish myself (only a small distant ancestral link), however I love all things Scottish. Has anyone heard the album "Eddi Reader Sings the Songs of Robert Burns" from 2004? Fantastic renditions done in Reader's unique style.
Eddi's brother Frank Reader is the lead singer of the Trashcan Sinatras, who do regular Brit-pop music but also include a little Burn's inspired music such as "Wild Mountainside", written by fellow Trashcan Sinatra John Douglas (video at www.squidoo.com/trashcansinatras). This song has recently been so identified with Robert Burns and Scotland, that many people think it's a Burn's composition, and it was played at the opening of the Scottish Parliament (QE II in attendance) a few years back, sung by Eddi Reader (video also at www.squidoo.com/trashcansinatras).

- Well, I don't know if I have Scots ancestry or not, but I was married to a Scot for a few years and got to spend nearly three months there back in '82. I'm also a Scottish Country Dancer, though that didn't start until much later.
Nice lens, 5*

- Yes I hope to visit Scotland at least once in my lifetime. I have Scots ancestry on both sides of my family. Needless to say I'm quite the Scottish history buff.
Mostly I have Clan Donald blood but also Lamont. My father's family is fairly new to the US. I'm only the third generation to be born in the New World.
Your lenses are wonderful! I would give this one 10 stars if I could. I'll be checking in often to see your updates.
