Spa Products from Home - For Fun or Profit

Most women love quality bath and body products. Just look at the number of stores that specialize in just these types of products. However, what if you could make your own spa-quality products from home for a fraction of the cost you would pay in the store...wouldn't that be great?

In addition, think about this...once you really refine your skills at making these items, you:
1. Will never have to pay retail price for such pampering items
2. Can have an endless supply of quality gifts to give for all kinds of occasions for your friends and family
3. Have the ability to create a second income, working from home, selling your products. A great time is Christmas. There are many craft fairs, Christmas bazaars and expo's you could easily package your products up for. The possibilities are endless.

Those three reasons were enough to get me started down the fun road of making these products. Right now, my favorite thing to create is the Body Scrubs. I will share some fun and easy recipes to get you started. However, these are just the tip of the iceberg as to what you can make.

EASY Homemade Body Scrub Recipes

Here are some simple Sugar Scrub recipes that you can make in any fragrance you like. A bottle of this spa scrub would cost at least $20 retail, but you can make it at home for a fraction of the price. In addition, the best part of all is that you can customize it to many different fragrances

Honey Body Scrub
3/4 cup of honey
1 cup of sugar (brown sugar, white granulated sugar or natural sugar is fine)
1 cup of sea salt or kosher salt
1 tablespoon of jojoba oil
1 tablespoon of oil of your choice

Mix the dry ingredients first.
Add oil and mix until you get a paste-like mixture

Brown Sugar Body Scrub
2/3 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 - 1/2 cup almond oil
1/2 tsp of vitamin E
45-60 drops of fragrance or essential oil

Mix almond oil, vitamin E and fragrance or essential oil together in a glass bowl. Add the brown sugar and mix in well.
*Combine all ingredients and enjoy

Almond Oil Sugar Scrub
2/3 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Sweet Almond Oil
10 Drops Vitamin E
10 Drops Essential oil/Fragrance Oil

Mix oil, vitamin E and essential oil or fragrance oil in a bowl.
Add sugar and mix well. Divide into containers.

A Bit About Body Scrubs

Body scrubs are a nice addition to your skin care routine because they help to slough off the dead skin cells from the surface of our bodies. The result is smoother, softer, healthier looking skin. The benefits to this are many, but the number one benefit, in my opinion, is that it allows our other products to work more effectively on our skin. For example, with the dead skin cells gone, your moisturizer can penetrate more deeply, for softer and healthier skin. Ever wonder how the stars get that glowing skin? Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate.

There are 3 basic parts to a body scrub:
1. Exfoliates- Salt, sugar, ground almonds help to remove the dead skin cells.
2. Carrier Oils- Almond oil, grape seed oil or hazelnut oil. These help the exfoliates penetrate the skin to be more effective.
3. Essential Oils- Lavender, Juniper or Grapefruit oils. These help to "heal" the skin and for fragrance.

How Should Body Scrubs Be Applied?
You should apply the scrubs to damp skin, in a circular motion. Once rubbed in, go ahead and rinse off with warm water, again, using a circular motion. Once it is all rinsed off, dry your body and apply a moisturizer. Your skin should feel velvety soft and smooth.
