Homemade Charcoal Water Filter - Why Do I Need One
My goodness, where is it going to end! You simply cannot trust the tap water or the bottled water anymore. I'm convinced that a homemade charcoal water filter is worth looking at. Why do I say so? Well bottled water is simply not as safe as we all believed it was until recently.
As life goes and as we get to know more and more about people's greed, it becomes more and more understandable why people do what they do. So many people are bottling so-called "spring" water from the normal taps water available in our towns and cities.
I find it shocking to realize that bottled water is very often contaminated and in some instances even more dangerous than our tap water! Saying this in South Africa, where our tap water is vary dubious to say the least, is a very strong thing to say.
Even if people are bottling spring water, it has been proved that the spring water can also be contaminated! As the earth is becoming more and more filled with people, wastes that land up on the ground and rivers is also contaminating our underground water, making it unsafe as well.
So, all in all I'm taking a serious look at homemade charcoal water filters as they really seem to be the answer to cheap, clean and healthy water. Obviously, if you can, buying a really good commercial water filter will be good. You really have to take your own circumstances into account here. You know best of all what your need are and how bad the water in your vicinity really is. It is worth looking at homemade charcoal water filters and all other kinds of homemade water filters!
I'm haveing a serious look as the commercial ones in South Africa are really expensive.
Homemade Charcoal Water Filter - Easy To Make At Home
But, you are not limited to a homemade charcoal water filter, there are filters using sand and pebbles that are really effective to remove impurities from the water. Many use an added coffee filter to get rid of the big impurities before the water goes through the sand and pebbles.
You have to keep in mind what the purpose of your homemade water filter is. If the water has a lot of impurities, but the impurities are mainly sand and gravel and there are no harmful bacteria in the water, a very simple water filter is sufficient.
On the other hand, if there's a lot of harmful bacteria in the water, simple filtration will not be enough. This is normally where the charcoal comes in. What is better though, is to use activated carbon for removing the bacteria. It is, of course, also possible to use chlorine, but most of us do not approve of the taste and smell it will give the water.
So, you can make your own homemade charcoal water filter. Do your homework on your needs and you will be able to save a lot of money by making it yourself.

- Charcoal Water Filters is basically made from the husk of coconut. One of the reasons that charcoal is worked with extensively as a water filter is because the charcoal water filter acts as an absorbent. The advantage in using charcoal is because the charcoal will absorb impurities, often toxic, when the water runs past the charcoal in the water filter.

- My favorite feature on the Berkey System is the stainless steel water container. Many other brands of water filters are made out of polycarbonate and plastic components that may leach harmful chemicals into the water.
