Physical Fitness in Homeschooling? How does it fit in?

Homeschoolers (sometimes called "un-schoolers") have a wide variety of ways that they address the educational needs of their kids. "Education" is not synonymous with "School" and vice versa.  Just because you are not in "school" does not mean that you aren't learning anything.  Likewise, there's no guarantee that you will learn anything much in school.

Some of my other lenses address the "curriculum" and other aspects of homeschooling. This lens will try to provide some ideas for Physical Fitness for homeschoolers.

Sometimes you don't need a "school gym" or going to an indoor "health club" for getting and staying physically fit when there's snow on the ground and it's too cold for jogging or swimming or hiking). There are Alternatives!

If you combine the "alternatives" with some fun music or video enhancement, as well as going on healthy exercise activities such as snow-skiing, snow-boarding, surfing (warmer areas, obviously), martial arts, dancing, or even dog-walking, you can keep reasonably fit without too much pain.

Combine Snorkeling with Swimming (and also Marine Biology, Ecology, and other Homeschool Subjects!)

Physical Fitness Can Be Exciting and Fun!

Physical Fitness doesn't have to be boring and dull and monotonous any more than other subjects or topics of study need to be. Homeschoolers have found ways to make almost any topic interesting and fun for kids to learn--and there's no reason why Physical Fitness can't be the same. Also, in much the same way that certain homeschool topics can be combined (such as reading and writing when studying biology), Physical Fitness work can be combined with reading, writing, history, and biology.

About EditorDave

Living on Guam is what now "defines" me.  It was such a dramatic difference in my life and outlook on things that there's no way I'd be the same if I had remained in New Mexico or any of the rest of the U.S. Mainland.   One of the classes I took at the University of Guam was "Scientific and Technical Writing and Editing"... I did not realize at the time that this class would be setting the foundation for the rest of my working life.  I found that I *love* words and fooling around with making them work as best as possible.  I also took classes in formal linguistics at the University of Guam--and took classes in Japanese, Russian, Mandarin Chinese. These classes helped me to become comfortable with working with translations of technical material into English from other languages.  I can help folks with making their words work for the particular audience they are writing for.
