Raising honey bee awareness through my handmade crafts

I love to crochet. I love all animals. I believe the honey bee is threatened and needs our help. What is good for the honey bees is also good for the planet. We depend on the honey bee for every third bite of food that we put into our mouths. Without this major pollinator our food supply would be severly compromised. I can't imagine how we would survive since the honey bee has been around for millions and millions of years.

I try to raise honey bee awareness through my handmade crocheted and knitted items and donate 10% to 20% of my sales proceeds to Honey Bee Research!

Crocheting in Georgia

My stand on the bees and our environment

This blog is a Kaleidoscope of sorts that allows the visitor glimpses into my life in terms of what I do and what I think about., my passions and daily activities, including my crocheting and knitting work. I like sharing about my environment and in particular my pets. I love nature and post plenty of photos so that my family and friends can see how it looks here in Georgia, where I live. I also talk about my work and provide links to my shop and flickr where I have a variety of photos posted.

I feel strongly about preserving our environment and doing the best we can to conserve and preserve and not pollute any more than we have to by recycling and upcycling so that plastic and other hazardous materials can be kept out of the landfills as long as possible.

Because, ultimately, what is good for the environment is also good for the bees and good for everyone!

Honey Bee Crochet by SturmDM

Crochet and knitting by Doris

I created a shop on Etsy in order to sell my handmade items so that I can continue to work and donate to charity at the same time.

Although there are many worth-while causes, I decided to pick the Honey Bees since they are a major pollinator and responsible for every third bite of food that we put into our mouths. Since I love fresh produce I really appreciate the work the honey bee does for us and I can't imagine what would happen if they were all gone. We must preserve our environment and treat it better or else there will be no hope for future generations. This littering of the globe must stop before it's too late, unless it is already too late...only time will tell.

By joining Etsy and the Honey Bee Helpers team, I have learned a lot through research and talking to fellow team members about CCD and we are constantly striving to spread the word about the seriousness of this condition.

It is my pleasure to be able to do something I love and at the same time help to make a difference in a small way.

Please vote for Rocky Raccoon!

My Etsy Hookers crochet team is having a contest

I entered Rocky Raccoon in the contest called "A Walk on the Wild Side" and even though he's ahead right now, he wasn't always. He had to run really fast to overtake those cute, felted infant's bunny slippers.

Don't let him fall behind and keep voting to let him win this race:

Everyone is welcome to vote! Please pass it on!

My flickr photos

My crochet & knitting, my pets and nature

Here you will see some photos of my work. I enjoy to crochet and also knit from time to time. I have two shops on Etsy and I donate a certain percentage of my sales proceeds to Honey Bee Research, hence the name "Honey Bee Crochet."
On a side note:
I recently was accepted by ValTech to serve as a Crochet Instructor for this year's summer and fall semesters...I am very excited!

Also, I love my dog, Gizzy and I'm always photographing him. He's my not-so-silent, silent partner in my crochet business. When I crochet, he sleeps (for the most part) because he's a senior citizen too and that works out just fine. We love exploring the outside together, so there will be some photos of our surroundings as well.

Thanks for your comment, Samantha, and yes, I agree...don't know if I'll be able to keep up with everything plus this, but I will try without driving myself crazy. I've not crocheted for several days and I will have to take a computer sabatical to do so. Welcome to Squidoo!

So pleased to see you on Squidoo, Doris. You have a really good start to your first lens. Great title, as I know about two of your favorite passions, handmade crafts and saving the honeybees. Can't wait to read more about both, plus some stories and pictures of your darling dog Gizzy. 5* and favorited!

Ha, I thought I did that because I put my Etsy shop's address somewhere when I signed up yesterday, but I still have a lot to learn. I will do what you suggested. I appreciate the help and thanks so much for your reply!

    Happy Memorial Day weekend!
