I personally host about a dozen sites with hostgator, using several "Baby" packages for $7.95 a month (and the unique IP addon for $2 a month), plus a reseller "Aluminium" account at $24.95.

The good thing about the "Baby" shared hosting package is the ability to get your own IP for only $2, which isn't available for the smallest "Hatchling" package, but for SEO purposes your own IP is pretty much a must have. So, for under $10 a month, you get some decent SEO Hosting.

In addition, a free Enom domain reseller account is included, that's right, buy domains at very low reseller prices. My personal experiences are very positive: Even on the virtual accounts the sites are loading lightning fast and I never had a downtime in three years. If you have any questions, customer support is always helpful and friendly. The cPanel interface of the reseller account is a bit confusing at first look, so many options and configurations, but once I got used to it, creating new accounts for customers become a matter of a few minutes. I especially like the fact that I get domains so cheap with the included Enom reseller acoount, the money I already saved on domain registration paid me many months of hosting.
