What is Hot Line training?
Hot Line training teaches linemen how to work safely on an energized network. The network can be LV, MV, HV or EHV. Different procedures are used for every voltage.
What types of training are there?
The basic types are as follows:
Bare Hand - the lineman bonds to the energized phase. This is just live a bird sitting on a wire.
Hot Stick - The lineman uses an insulated hot stick to do the maintenance work. He must maintain separation because there will be a potential difference between his body and the line.
Rubber Glove - The lineman contacts the line using insulated rubber gloves and sleeves that are rated for the particular voltage. This can be done up to 36 KV. Above 36kV work is done either bare hand or with hot sticks.
