How to HouseBreak Your Puppy
Ranked #35,032 in Pets & Animals, #1,354,782 overall
For all the joys that puppies bring to our homes, house breaking a puppy is not one of them. Believe me when I tell you that there is nothing more aggravating that coming home to a "present" that your dog left while you were gone. It's certainly not how I like to be greeted when I get home. Hope you sprung for the stainmaster carpet! I know because I've been there and done that. I had the T-shirt, but used it as a rag to clean up after Gracie. If this sounds like you, keep reading. I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to be this way. I have known many people who gave up on house breaking their puppy and either found another home, or made their puppy an outside dog. If you've made the commitment to owning a puppy, your goal should be to make him your constant companion, which he can't be if you fail to house train him. The harsh reality about house training your puppy is this: it's not his fault, it's yours. Your puppy only knows what you teach him, and it's up to you to learn to communicate with him to have success in housetraining your puppy.
Struggling to HouseBreak Your Puppy?
It doesn't have to be this hard...
I know that's a bold statement, but it's not one that I make lightly. If you've been trying with no success to house break your puppy there is hope.
Let me paint a picture for you, one that I think you may be familiar with. You get up earlier than usual to take your puppy outside. After freezing your ________ off while waiting for your pup to do his business, you realize that you're now late for work and have to hustle to get out the door on time. Maybe he went, maybe he didn't. No time for that as you head out the door to work. Fast forward to the end of the day, you arrive home ready to relax. Then you discover what your puppy made for you while you were gone. After trying to clean/disinfect/deodorize, you dutifully head outside in the hopes that your dog will actually potty outside this time. Did I mention you still haven't even taken off your shoes?
Kinda sounds like I've been there before doesn't it?
That's because I have! And the fact is, it wasn't that long ago.

What Works - And What Doesn't
What you're doing may be reinforcing bad behavior
OK, let me start off by saying that if you are rubbing your dogs nose in anything, STOP! This absolutely does NOT work. Never has, never will. It's the worst thing you can to when trying to housebreak a puppy. Here's why. Your puppy does not have a very long memory. If you come home and find something he left you, and proceed to rub his nose in it, you're doing two things. First, you're confusing him. He doesn't know why you're doing this, since you didn't catch him in the act. If you don't catch him right away, forget it. By taking him back to the scene of the crime and rubbing his nose in it you're telling him "This is where you go potty! Go right here! I know what you did and want you to do it again!" Kind of counter productive, don't you think. Not to mention barbaric. Don't ever do this. Ever. Were you potty trained this way? Then don't do it to your pet.
What did work?

Their methods not only taught me how my dog thinks, but also showed me how to tell her what I want her to do.

The Results Are In
Where we are today
I really can't tell you how much happier me and my dog are today. I now know how to understand her better and to know what she wants. She has learned that listening to daddy gets her anything she wants. There are no more accidents, no more rubber gloves and cleaners, nothing. Now there's just me walking my housebroken puppy.
