Sharing Housework? KEY to a Successful Marriage?

In a recent debate I was asked to choose "Yes" or "No" to the question "Is sharing housework between husbands and wives the key to successful marriages?"

I wrote an article that explains why I answered "NO" - 

The value of shared housework has been debated, paraded and broadcast since the age of enlightenment, ERA and women's liberation. Frequent attempts to lure men into sharing of housework resulted in husbands grown weary of "honey-do" lists and nagging wives. Sitcoms and movies capitalize on this topic more than any other. Mrs. Cleaver, Jeanie, Samantha, Alice and Mrs. Brady, Lucy, and Mrs. Walton eternally slave over the stove while their Misters do nothing but steal a peck, a pinch or a spoonful. Let the viewer take frequent note, these were successful marriages.

When men are willing to pick up more of these routine tasks rather than relegating most of them to women, they help create a more equal partnership.

Who knew? We all grumble about doing housework, but when we started researching, we had no idea how huge an issue housework really was. Depending on the culture, it's a huge part of family structures and dynamics. It's literally role defining. At the same time, there's more at stake than just a load of dirty laundry. Housework even effects marital happiness.

Housework is Positively Masculine

Composing a piece of music is very feminine. It is sensitive, emotional, contemplative. By comparison, doing housework is positively masculine.
