Part of the problem is that when we are having a panic attack or anxiety attack, we are talking to ourselves. The tendency is that we will talk ourselves into getting worse. When we are internally focused, problems look much bigger. When we pray we are not talking to ourselves about our problems we are talking with God. This creates a different perspective. We are talking to Someone who can make a difference.
Prayer also shapes our beliefs. Since our beliefs also have a lot to do with our anxiety attacks, then changing our beliefs through prayer can make a significant difference.
Try this simple prayer next time you feel like you are about experience a panic attack:
"God, I feel afraid of what I am facing. I need help. I am coming to you because you are big enough to help me. You are too wise to make any mistakes and too loving to be unkind so I am trusting you to help through the next 5 minutes."
