How To Get Traffic To Your Squidoo Lens

Welcome Fellow Lensmasters!

How long have you spent building that perfect lens? You've put your heart and soul into it, you've written and deleted more paragraphs than you care to imagine - all because you want to make sure that your Squidoo lens gets traffic.

After all, what's the point in creating a lens to be it's only reader? It can be soul destroying when you keep checking to see if anyone has managed to find you. You could start to wonder if anyone really cares what you have to say!

To be quite honest with you, it doesn't matter if you want to get traffic to your Squidoo lens because you want the world to know about your cat or you want to sell ice to eskimos. This lens will help you get traffic to YOUR lenses.

Let's Find Out If You're Even Ready To Get Traffic

You might want visitors by are you ready for them?

Well, are you? It might sound a little harsh after all your hard work, but it's just too easy to get a little eager and side tracked with traffic when you should be making the finishing touches.

When you know you are having visitors to your home, there are things that you do in preparation for them. You make sure that you have a nice clean home for them to walk into - or at least throw the mess into a cupboard before they arrive. Once they have arrived, you will probably offer them something to drink.

Your Squidoo lens should be no different. You should make sure that everything is in order before you invite anyone there.

Your Cleaners Check List For A Visitor Ready Lens

Remember to do this checklist before you start to get traffic to your lens

Follow these steps to make sure that your lens is ready for traffic - try and carry these out BEFORE you hit the 'publish' button.

  • Complete your author bio - people like people and showing them who you are and what you are about will increase their trust in you.

  • Always include a picture in your bio - If you don't want to use one of the 'real' you, search for a royalty free image and use that one.

  • Have you run all your content through a spell checker? It's always worth asking someone else to read through (out loud) to see if everything makes perfect sense too.

  • Check that the images you use have at least one keyword in their name. Just right click on the image and then hit 'rename' if they don't and upload them again.

  • Have you taken advantage of the subtitles on each module? Don't miss out on the chance of getting some good keywords in them.

  • Make sure you check all your main titles are keyword rich (but not spammy) and relevant to your lens.

The list goes on here, but I'm sure you are getting the idea. Check, double check and then check again!

It might sound like common sense, but these are the biggest causes of 'problem' lenses that I see. Making sure that your lens is 'traffic ready' will also help you to keep that visitor with you once they arrive.

TOP TIP: If you can't find an image you want to use, try using 'clipart' that comes with word. In the latest version it has some real quality images to use - for free!

What Do You Want Your Squidoo Traffic To Do?

Getting traffic to your lens is one thing - but will they know what to do?

Again, this is more of a 'getting ready' for traffic tip, but it's important enough to have a part on it's own.

What is it you want to achieve from your lens? Do you want to get people to buy something, let you know something or get them to your blog or forum?

If you aren't sure what you want them to do, how will they possibly know? Make sure that you make it clear what your reader is to do next.

Do you want them to sign up to your newsletter? If so, have you included a link to your sign up form?

Do you want them to visit your blog? Have you linked to it well? 'Click here' doesn't make it inviting enough but 'Get my 7 top tips to make sure your wife divorces you FAST' gives them an incentive to click through.

Keep it clear what you want your readers to do. If you are asking them to contact you in someway, let them know how.

Let's Start To Get Some Traffic To Your Squidoo Lens Now

OK, you are ready to get your visitors - let's begin.

Let's start with article marketing or bum marketing to drive traffic to your Squidoo lenses. It's totally free and simple to do. I expect that you are sick and tired of listening to people talk about this method by now.

The simple fact of the matter is this - They talk about it because it works! Yes, it might take a little longer than other methods, but you can start to build traffic to your lens from day one and as the days go by you'll start to see an increase. You do the work once and get rewarded for months to come.

You write an article based around your keywords and then submit it to one of the article directories. Personally I don't think anyone comes close to ezinearticles, but everyone has their own top choice.

Once your article is written (if you struggle with this, then pay someone to do it for you - it costs less than $10 per article) you should spend some time making sure that your bio box is working to it's full potential and pulling lots of traffic to your lens.

Keep testing this and if you have a lot of readers and not many people clicking through to your lens, change your author bio first. Give them a reason to want to go and read it.

Working Backlinks For More Traffic To Your Lens

One of the most underused ways to generate traffic to Squidoo.

If you are hoping to get traffic from Google you need to spend some time making sure that your /www.squidoo.com/Getting-A-Squidoo-Lens-Listed-In-Google>Squidoo lens is indexed by Google in the first place.

You can only start to see lots of free traffic to your lens direct from Google if you are being shown when people search.

One of the best ways to get there is to build some quality backlinks to your lens. You can find out all about Squidoo and Backlinks here and then read all about my 7 Top Tips For Getting Backlinks.

Spending at least half an hour per week doing this will give you some really good results so NEVER overlook this method of getting traffic to your lens.

What About Forums For Some Quality Traffic?

Be VERY careful when you use this method!

This method is actually one of the best methods around for getting some seriously targeted traffic to your lens. The problem is this ...

Get it wrong and you are going to suffer!

When I say this, I want you to think very carefully about it. If you turn up at someones forum and you start to post about how wonderful you are and the great products you have, you are going to get kicked off.

Even if you just turn up and start posting about yourself and never mention any products, people are going to crack on pretty quickly that you have links to your products in your signature. Again, you'll get shouted at or booted off.

Think before you act and you should be able to bring in some really good traffic just by giving away some quality information.

If you see someone speaking about a problem they have within your niche, find the answers and tell them. They should be so impressed with what you have said that they will probably want to hear more from you. Chances are, they will click through on your signature and land right where you want them to be.

Great Squidoo Traffic Tips! I really liked the bio advice and the 'traffic ready' checklist. One's initial impression whether offline or online is important. You have 30 seconds to impress someone offline and you have 8 seconds to impress someone online. You don't get a second chance to make a good first impression. *****5 Stars!
