How To Play Bakugan - For Parents and Kids

So, I watched as he and his friends played this mysterious game... watching as their various Bakugans battled... and displayed all of these interesting cards. It seems fun. But when it came time to get some of these items for Christmas, I truly was at a loss. Which Bakugan was good to buy? What's the big deal about booster packs? Why does he need Special Ability cards?

How To Win Bakugan
The Object of the Game
Pretty simple!
Bakugan Battle Set Up
How To Play Bakugan

1. Each player chooses 3 of Bakugans to play with for the battle.
2. Each player selects 3 Gate Cards, one of each color.
3. Each player selects 3 Ability Cards, one of each color (red, green and blue).
All of these items go into an "Unused Pile" for game play.
Bakugan Gate Cards
What is a Gate Card?
Down the left side of the Gate Card are six circles. Each color represents an attribute.

Light Blue = Ventus (wind)
Red= Pyrus (fire)
Brown = Subterra (terrain)
Yellow = Haos (light and energy)
Black = Darkus (darkness)
In each circle is a number. This the G-Power boost your Bakugan will receive in battle. You'll match your Bakugan to it's home world attribute on the Gate Card.
So, if you have a Pyrus Bakugan, you may want to choose a Gate Card that has a large number in the red circle.
At the bottom of the Gate Card may be written instructions. These instructions are implemented when you reveal the Gate Card for a Bakugan Battle. Based on what your Gate Card says... may impact how you choose your Gate Card with your Bakugans.
The Bakugan Battle
How To Play Bakugan

Playing with a Bakugan Arena is very helpful.
2. Each player takes turns rolling one of their Unused Bakugans toward one of the 2 cards.
3. When two Bakugans (one from each player) open on a Gate Card, it's a Bakugan Battle!
4. Remove the Bakugans from the Gate Card and read the G-Power on each Bakugan.
5. Gate Reveal: Flip the Gate card over and do what it says. (if anything)
6. Play an Ability card (if desired) - first, by the player whose turn it is. Each Ability card says when it can be played. Tell your opponent that you are playing the
card, do what the card says and then put the card in your Used pile. Adjust your scores accordingly.

The battle is won by the Bakugan that now has the higher G-Power.
The player who wins the battle puts the Gate card in their Used pile.
All players put their open Bakugans into their Used Pile.
The Battle Brawl continues with rolling Bakugans at the remaining Gate Card. The first person to win three Gate Cards wins the entire Battle!

My Bakugan Opened On a Gate Card
Now What?
1. If you are the only open Bakugan on that Gate Card, then it is the next player's turn.
2. If your opponent's Bakugan is open on that Gate Card, then a Bakugan Battle begins!

> If there is an open Gate Card on the field, you must move your most recently rolled Bakugan to an open Gate Card. It is now the next player's turn.
> If there are no other open Gate Cards on the field, then you win the Gate Card without a battle. Immediatly put the Gate Card into your Used Pile. The Gate Card is not actually played, so you do not follow any instructions that are on the Gate Card.
My Bakugan Didn't Open
If it rolls and stops on a Gate Card but doesn't open, it still counts as if it opened. Refer to the game play once a Bakugan has opened on a Gate Card.
I Don't Have Anymore Bakugans in My Unused Pile
It's a Tie
The first Bakugan to stand on the Gate Card wins the battle and gets to put the Gate Card into his Used pile.
Bakugan Battle Strategies
Do you need to know more about how to choose your gate cards, bakugans and ability cards?
Read through these sections to help you plan your battle strategy.
Choosing Bakugans for Battle
How do I choose the Bakugan I want to play with?
First, open your Bakugan sphere to read the G-Power points for your Bakugan. Each Bakugan has a different G-Power level. The points will read something like this 350G.
The higher the G-Points the better.
Then, you need to look at your Gate Cards. One of your Gate Cards should complement your Bakugan. The G-Point booster for your Bakugan's attribute should be a high number.
Third, look at your Special Ability cards. If you have an ability card that enhances the points for your selected Bakugan, then you have a force to be reckoned with!
How Do I Choose My Gate Cards?
But if you have a lot of Gate Cards... how to you decide on which 3 Gate Cards to play with?
There are two things on the Gate Cards that you need to look at... the attribute bonuses and the special ability.
The attribute bonuses are the numbers you see in the colored circles (home word attributes) along the left side of the card. The number is the G-Power bonus that is added to your Bakugan during battle. Ideally, you want to choose a Gate Card that has a high number in the attribute circle that matches your Bakugan.
So, if your Bakugan is a Pyrus Bakugan, then the number in the red circle is its G-Power boost.
The special abilities are a little more complex. Read the Special Abilities section in the lens to learn more.
Special Abilities
The special powers on the Gate Cards
There are Silver, Gold and Copper Gate Cards
Silver Gate Cards: These are the basic Gate Cards, which don't even have special abilities. So, using the silver gate cards is easy. Try to use a gate card that has a high G-Power boost for your type of Bakugan.

Some gold cards should be played early, because they have benefits that will last the duration of the game. So, if you have a card that says all Aquos and Haos Bakugan earn +50 G-Power once the Gate Card is put in any player's used pile. So, once this card is put into a used pile... if you play an Aquos or Haos Bakugan... you earn +50 G-Power. But beware... the same benefit applies to ANY player that has an Aquos or Haos Bakugan.
Copper Gate Cards: These are probably the most advanced types of gate cards to play. Some of these gate cards will change the battle completely. There is a copper gate card that swaps the G-Power of the Bakugans in battle. This is perfect if you have weak Bakugans!
Another copper gate card prevents players from using their ability cards.
Copper gate cards need a little planning to play, but can be very powerful when used correctly.
How Do I Choose My Ability Cards
All about the Ability Cards
To understand how to choose your cards, it's best to understand each color.
Blue Ability Cards: These are the basic and ability cards and therefore the easiest to use. They mostly add bonus points to the matching attribute. So, make sure you select ability cards that benefit the attribute of your Bakugan.

Red Ability Cards: The red cards are only good in certain situations. You play these right before or right after you roll your Bakugan. Red cards can bring used Bakugans back into play... and can even bring back used ability cards. These tend to be advanced cards... but if used correctly can you give you the winning edge!
There are also IN BATTLE abiltiy cards. If you are playing with more than 2 people, you can only play IN BATTLE ability cards when your Bakugan is in battle.
