The key to success is to break out of a routine. Typically, troubled couples establish patterns of behavior that can create a distance between them. They get stuck in a "rut". So, when you are trying to figure out how to repair a relationship, be thinking of ways to get out of your "rut".

A great strategy is to get out of town, and take a trip. The destination can either be a place that used to be a mutual favorite, or a place that is brand new. It really does not matter.

Prior to leaving, it is important that the partners make a "pact" to discuss the state of the relationship. The discussions should be feelings based, and not personal attacks. Personal attacks are not how to repair a relationship.

During the weekend, make an effort to establish physical intimacy. Often times when couples get in to a "rut", physical closeness all but disappears. For a relationship to survive, some form of physical closeness must return.

It does not matter if it returns slowly, as long as it returns. A simple act, such as holding hands, can be a positive step toward re-establishing a physical bond. The key is to be very conscious about being physically closer to each other.

New Activities Can Bring You Closer

A movie, for example, does not lend itself to couples interacting. A nice dip in a jacuzzi, on the other hand, can be a great opportunity to become closer to your partner.

And, getting closer is one key in how to repair a relationship.

The key is to work on your relationship NOW! I know if I had waited much longer, I would have lost the love of my life. What I needed was a PLAN. Something that made sense that I could follow.
