How to Begin My Own Food Revolution-Using Smoothies
Ranked #8,206 in Food & Cooking, #148,668 overall
Jamie Oliver demonstrated a New Food Revolution-Now What about your own Food Revolution?
It was a good show, it demonstrated what we can do personally. It showed us what would happen if we don't do something--like right now- our children will die young. Not only that, our nation is on the dangerous road to overweight, obesity, heart disease, and yes to premature death. You can't get any more serious than that.
What do you think, do we need to chart a different course? Of course we do, and as soon as possible.
Okay, with that point made, let's change gears and go right to the solution. Why dwell on the morbid facts.
Smoothies are a way to incorporate whole foods into the diet easily and quickly, using foods and they contain vitamins, minerals, live enzymes, and all the elements of health and vitality-to impart those qualities to our bodies.
Enjoy for Your Best Health,

Tools for Smoothies
You don't need much, but these are important anyway.
First you need to keep organic fruits and vegetables on hand-always have the best food you can get.
A Good knife to cut your fruit and vegetables
Cutting board
A Strong Blender like a BlendTec or a Vita Mix
That's just about it.
If you don't have a strong blender, you will need to blend your greens and other produce with more water or liquid, and cut your produce into much smaller pieces to help your blender. That is so you don't burn the motor out.
If you have a strong blender, you may add less liquid, or none at all. And you won't have any trouble adding ice.
Ten Health Benefits of Green Smoothies by Victoria Boutenko
And-the Smoothie I made this Morning
Ten Health Benefits of Green Smoothies
1. Green smoothies are very nutritious. The ratio in them is optimal for human consumption; about 60% ripe organic fruit mixed with about 40% organic greens.
2. Green smoothies are easy to digest. When blended well, most of the cells in the greens and fruits are ruptured, making the valuable nutrients easy for the body to assimilate. Green smoothies literally start to get absorbed in your mouth.
3. Green smoothies, as opposed to juices, are a complete food because they still have fiber. Consuming fiber is important for our elimination system.
4. Green smoothies belong to the most palatable dishes for all humans of all ages. With a ratio of fruits to veggies as 60:40 the fruit taste dominates the flavor, yet at the same time the greens balance out the sweetness of the fruit, adding a nice zest to it. People who eat a standard American diet enjoy the taste of green smoothies. They are usually quite surprised that something so green could taste so nice.
5. A molecule of chlorophyll closely resembles a molecule of human blood. According to teachings of Dr. Ann Wigmore, consuming chlorophyll is like receiving a healthy blood transfusion. Many people do not consume enough greens, even those who stay on a raw food diet. By drinking two or three cups of green smoothies daily you will consume enough greens for the day to nourish your body, and all of the beneficial nutrients will be well assimilated.
6. Green smoothies are easy to make, and quick to clean up after. In contrast, juicing greens is time consuming, messy, and expensive. Many people abandon drinking green juices on a regular basis for those reasons. To prepare a pitcher of green smoothie takes less than 5 minutes, including cleaning.
7. Green smoothies have proven to be loved by children of all ages, including babies of six or more months old. Of course you have to be careful and slowly increase the amount of smoothies to avoid food allergies.
8. When consuming your greens in the form of green smoothies, you are greatly reducing the consumption of oils and salt in your diet.
9. Regular consumption of green smoothies forms a good habit of eating greens. After a few weeks of drinking green smoothies, most people start to crave and enjoy eating more greens. Eating enough greens is often a problem with many people, especially children.
10. While fresh is always best, green smoothies will keep in cool temperatures for up to three days, which can be handy at work and while traveling.

Note from Carmel:
All of Victoria's guidelines are right on.
I just wanted to add something. As some of you have noticed in my article Raw-Organic-Vegetables-Cheap for the family, I spoke about the ease as well as low cost of sprouting. When making my smoothies I usually throw in at least a handful of sprouts. The sprouts can be mixed, alfalfa, or any type you like. If it isn't a lot, you won't even taste it. But, the nutritional value really skyrockets with the addition f sprouts.
Try it, and adjust it to your own taste.
Also, the Boutenko's suggest only using water, different types of greens and fruit-for the perfect smoothie. I do this first thing every day. I make a large blender full, and drink mine in the morning. Then I make other smoothies. Yes, they do have greens water and fruit in them, but, as you will see from some of my recipes I also use Glyco Slim low glycemic nutritional meal mix, and add my nutritional supplements into this mix. I make many different flavors, as I am able to use both the Chocolate flavor and the Vanilla, and you can make anything with those. I make ones I call a Berry Blast, Chocolate Cherry, Cherry Vanilla., Tropical Pineapple. Anything I dream up, I am able to make.
For my whole food nutrition supplements such as Glyco-Slim--Ambrotose and Osolean.
Smoothies can be nutritious, tantalizing, and a tongue tingling delight. Enjoy.

Raw Family : A True Story of Awakening (Paperback) 2000
4 ½ Stars
This book chronicles the journey of the Boutenko family in which each member had serious medical conditions that left them with no hope of ever living a healthy life until in deperation they switched their diet to a raw food diet. This book is for anyone who is considering of changing their lifestyle diet to a more raw living foods lifestyle regardless if 1% to 100%, because the journey to change in life can be difficult. The Boutenko family's journey can provide the encouragement to keep going when the difficulties come, because as in any lifestyle change, staying the course will reap great rewards and joy in the end.
Another one:
The Boutenko family has taken a life threatening challenge and turned it into something amazing, special and a gift for the rest of us. A great read with inspiration and validation for a healthy lifestyle.
Slowly Easing Into the Green Smoothie Mode
Don't try to do it all at once--Go Sloooowww!
A green smoothie can be green, purple, blue, yellow or red, depending of the pigments of the ingredients in the smoothie. As long as they contain green leafy vegetables they are still considered green smoothies. Of course they should be delicious and nutritious-too. That is mandatory.
And now that I am sprouting, I also include some sprouts-of every kind in my smoothies. Be sure to rotate your foods, to get a variety. You especially need to rotate your greens, whereas you don't have to rotate your fruits as much, except for the much needed variety to suite your own taste.
How To Make the Best Green Smoothie Possible
Tribest Personal Blender - PB-100
4 1/2 Stars
I like drinking a smoothie during lunch at the office, but don't want to cart around a icebox full of ingredients, or a giant blender... The Tribest Personal Blender is perfect because I could leave the motor base at work, and can bring the perfect amount of ingredients for my own smoothie in the cup! All I have to do, is put it on the base and let it blend! I get fresh smoothies every day at work! And I don't have to worry about making a mess, having too many or too little ingredients, or lugging around a bulky blender!
Another One: Better than a Magic Bullet by a Mile
I have tried using both magic bullet and this blender and I can honestly say that this beats magic bullet by so much. It is very good especially and making smoothies and I love how it takes way less time to blend and liquefy all the ice chucks than the magic bullet. This blender is very convenient. I primarily use this blender for blending smoothies in the morning everyday and the quality of the machine is the same as it was when I first bought it. Superb!
Victoria Boutenko took Matters into Her Own Hands
A Very Brave Courageous Woman
Lately in doing my research I have learned about the Boutenko family.
They found their selves with very serious health issues, especially the son Sergie, who was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, which is very serious indeed.
Victoria, the mother took a very radical approach and went totally into whole raw foods.
She taught her family her new way of preparing food, and they have all worked on it together.
The journey is a very courageous one, and one that lots of people wouldn't do. Also, from what I understand, she cleaned house in one day, and threw out everything processed, to ensure they actually did it.
However you decide to do your own Food Revolution, and that is totally your choice, I feel that you will benefit from reading their story and their courageous journey. They are helping many people as they have helped their selves.

Green for Life by Victoria Boutenko (Paperback-2005)
What a wonderful book! For the past 20 years I've been on a quest to eat more natural foods, and my health improved drastically. But I still suffered from junk food cravings...until I discovered Green for Life!
Following Victoria's advice, I added lots of GREENS to my fruit smoothies, and the first day I did so MY FOOD CRAVINGS STOPPED. Bang. Just vanished. Just like my brain's "cravings switch" was flipped to the OFF position. Apparently my body had been craving minerals all those years, and once I started eating GREENS the cravings stopped. And I'm finally trimming down!
Victoria's research in this area is much needed, and much appreciated. I especially love the chapter on the chimpanzees and their daily eating habits.
My wife and I participated in one of Victoria's Green for Life teleconferences, and we loved it. She speaks from her heart, is really a nice lady, and this was one of the best conferences ever. We love Victoria! And we sure love the changes that are happening in our bodies!
Get this Green for Life book, make yourself some green smoothies, and watch your food cravings vanish. This is the secret to losing weight! :)
Thanks, Victoria, for Green for Life!
Some Green Smoothie Guidelines from Victoria Boutenko:
* Prepare your green smoothie first thing in the morning in the amount that you usually consume in one day, one or two quarts (liters). Pour enough smoothie in a glass for your morning enjoyment and keep the rest in a refrigerator or another cold place.
*Sip your green smoothie slowly, mixing it with saliva. Sometimes I put my smoothie in a coffee mug with a lid and carry it with me to the car or to my office. That way I minimize a chance of spilling it and keep it private without distracting others.
* Don't add anything to your smoothie except greens, fruit and water. I don't recommend adding nuts, seeds, oils, supplements or other ingredients to your green smoothie. Most of these items slow down the assimilation of green smoothies in your digestive tract and may cause irritation and gas. Even though I provide recipes with more than basic ingredients in my books I encourage you to stick to the basic green smoothie recipe (fruit and greens) in your daily routine.
*Drink your smoothie by itself, and not as a part of a meal. Don't consume anything, even as little as a cracker or candy with it. You may eat anything you want approximately 40 minutes before or 40 minutes after you finished your smoothie. Your goal is to get the most nutritional benefit out of your green smoothie.
* Do not add starchy vegetables such as carrots, beets, broccoli stems, zucchini, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, egg plant, pumpkin, squash, okra, peas, corn, green beans, and others to your green smoothies. Starchy vegetables combine poorly with fruit and may produce what my children call "gas 4 less."
*Don't add too many ingredients into one smoothie, such as nine different fruits and a dozen different greens. Try to keep most of your recipes simple to maximize nutritional benefits and to keep it easy on your digestive system.
* Learn to prepare a really delicious green smoothie so that you are always looking forward to the next one. If your drink is not tasty, you will eventually discontinue consuming it. Keep your taste buds happy.
* Always rotate the green leaves that you add to your smoothies. Almost all greens in the world contain minute amounts of alkaloids. Tiny quantities of alkaloids cannot hurt you, and even strengthen the immune system. However, if you keep consuming kale, or spinach, or any other single green for many weeks without rotation, eventually the same type of alkaloids can accumulate in your body and cause unwanted symptoms of poisoning. Please note that you don't have to rotate the fruit in your green smoothies. Most commonly used fruit have very little or none of the alkaloids and cannot cause the same toxic reactions as greens. At the same time, rotating fruits will enhance the variety of flavor and nutrition in your smoothies.
*Choose organic produce whenever possible. The absence of pesticides and other toxic chemicals is only one of many benefits of organic food. The most important reason to consume organic food is the superior nutritional of organic fruits and vegetables in comparison to conventionally grown produce. We have been discussing earlier, how deficient most people are. The best way to nourish your body is to consume organic produce and whenever possible, locally grown. I consider it very important to get the fruit that was allowed to ripen on the vine because it is the best for nourishment. Tree-ripened fruit is several times more nutritious and when consumed shortly after picking retains significantly more nutrients.
