How to Mince Garlic

To mince garlic easily:
Remove the papery skin by laying your garlic clove on a cutting board and then using the side of a chef's knife to press down hard. this will loosen the skin and make it easy to remove.
Mince your garlic by making several lengthwise cuts through the clove and then re-cutting the cut strips crosswise.
An easier way to mince garlic is to put peeled garlic cloves into a garlic press then push down.
Easy as pie!

Why Mince Garlic?
Mincing garlic makes the tiny garlic pieces just about disappear into your foods and sauces which is wonderful for people who might be squeamish about biting into a large hunk of garlic.Crushing has a similar effect but you still might end up with a few larger pieces. Mincing guarantees that your garlic pieces are all small enough to get past even the pickiest eaters.

- If you mince a whole bag of garlic so it doesn't go bad before you can use it all. How do you save it? Do you add anything to the jar? water? oil?

- I always do mine fresh, in the amounts that I need but I would guess that Olive oil would work for your needs. I know I've seen it sold that way. Anyone else know?

- Ah, I'd love to see some pictures of the technique for mincing. I've got a handy Garlic Tool from Pampered Chefs that I always FORGET to use. The aroma of garlic frying in oil is intoxicating.
