How to control my terrible two year old
Ranked #821 in Parenting & Kids, #25,168 overall
Do you have a red faced monster disguised as a two year old?
Yes my daughter is two years old. Her name is Allie and she is sweet and loving. I love to hug her and she gives me kisses when I come home from work. Then without explanation it happens... the terrible two year old transformation occurs. Are you going through this yourself?
It's like the Incredible Hulk except she turns red instead of green. After going through this madness since last August it is my belief that this is a temporary disease in most toddlers and not just a PHASE let's have some fun and call it the TTY's (Terrible Twos Syndrome) for short.

So what are some of the symptoms of TTY's in our children? While their is no known cure for the TTY's we can explore some avenues to at least reduce this travesty until it passes which is normally between the ages of 17-20 years.

Tips on how to control my terrible two year old.
The shalt not's of avoiding and handling severe cases of the TTY's.
Thou shalt not:
1.Take your toddler out without there nap. Are you nuts?! Have you lost your mind?! Man, the shopping and groceries can wait till after the nap. Getting your child some good shut eye can be one of the most preventive TTY measures you can take.
2. Give into the little devils demands! I know it sucks when your loving child transforms in public leaving you standing there with $200 dollars worth of groceries in your shopping cart. You can feel the eyes of everybody in Wal-Mart glaring at you as wonder how to get your loving child back. Park your cart by the restroom and go inside until the TTY episode passes. You may even have to return to your car to let the episode subside.
3. Scream at the little devil! For many a parent this feels like a natural reaction to the symptoms stemming from TTY. This will not get you control of the terrible two year old. It will intensify the devilish side of episode even further. Keep calm and take in some deep breaths. Under the red faced demon your toddler can still here you so let them know that you want to help but they have to work with you.

The thou shalt's of coping with TTY's
Thou shalt:
1. Take steps to prevent the little devil from accidental injury. Do you remember that movie Scanners from the early 80's when that guys head exploded? When a serious case of TTY's breaks out Allie shudders and shakes and can contort her body in nearly demonic ways. It reminds me of that scene from that movie! She throws herself down over and over again on the floor. Make sure that if your toddler blows his stack that their are not dangerous objects around.
2. Give the transformed little Lucifer choices to help cope with a bad case of TTY. If for example Allie wants some candy just before dinner I inform her that it's to close to suppertime and that she can have some after dinner. Then after all the blood races to her head she screams I want some CANDY! I calmly tell that she is getting upset and if she doesn't calm down she will have to go to her room. The ball is then in her court. If your screamin demon listens to you and calms down be sure to compliment him on his good behavior.

- I have a 25 month old boy named ty and a 3 month old boy. Ty sprouted his horns at walking age (11 months) and has continued to get worse. he bites me, slaps, kicks and screams just for his own entertainment and laughs hysterically if you try to spank him. He refuses to nap or go to sleep at night. When put in bed for either occasion he will climb out of bed and run through the house at wwich time he is put back in bed and the cycle continues for hours, i swear i spnd half the day trying to get him to sleep, ugh...help

- Great lens! I have a 2 year old son and a 10 month old. I try to balance my attention and that doesn't always work. I like it when I'm walking through the store and both of them are screaming. The 10 month old for who knows what reason and the 2 year old because he didn't get a "truck" or he saw "Thomas" and didn't get to stop and play with it! Thankfully they are usually in the cart. It's the most fun when the 2 year old is walking and I end up dragging him by one arm because I'm carrying my other son who doesn't walk yet! Oh me!! So, if you're one of those people that have seen us in the store and stare like, "what is she thinking," I'll be happy to let you babysit sometime. Otherwise, just smile and commiserate as we pass by! :)

- My 2 year old daughter has been audacious for quite some time now. For about a month now things have gotten out of control. She cries and screams as soon as things are not going her way. She wakes up very moody during most of her naps. She bites her sister. I have learned that I need to stop what I am doing and giver my undivided attention and set her straight without spanking her. Just talking to her. It is very hard. Sometimes I get very frustrated.

- My goodness I could not have found this page at a better time. My daughter is 2. I am not kidding if something doesn't go her way it is hell for me. I don't want to spank her and I have been doing the time out thing since she was 1. I just don't understand. My 4 year old never had a case of TTY. I get so frustrated. Thank you for all the good advise.

- My daughter is 4 months from being 2. she always has to touch things that are not hers and always demands that she wants things. When she doesnt get her way she screams and yells and hits and kicks. Things we have tried and does not seem to be working are little time outs, long time outs, swat on butt, hand smacked, talked to nice and explain, and yelled at. What ever it may be she got introuble for she will go right back to doing it and this is on a daily bases. If any one has suggestions please let me know and i will let you know if we have tried it or not. PS this started when she was able to walk at 1 year old and seems to be getting worse. email is phatdave78@gmail.com

Yes this all started at walking age as well, sometimes I feel like it's my poor parenting but after reading all this, it must be the age.
