How Not To Catch The Cold This Winter

Winter is just around the corner and as always you can be sure the cold virus will hitch a free ride once again. It will try and victimize as many people as possible, keeping the and old at home or on a hospital bed where it is safe to recuperate.

But did you know that if you are healthy you don't have to be a victim? With the right armor you can fight back and the cold virus won't have a chance against you!

Now I'm not talking about a breast shield, helmet, sword or rifle. I'm talking about a shield invisible to the human eye. The invisible cold virus will attack your immune system, so you need an invisible armor to fight the invisible war.

By following the steps below you can eliminate your risks of catching the common cold. You won't have to worry about missing time at work, wasting your time at the emergency or spending your hard earned dollars on medications with nasty side effects.

Vitamin C

The first thing you need to do is to equip yourself with is Vitamin C. This can be found in oranges or freshly squeezed orange juice. Other fruits containing Vitamin C are the apple, avacado, banana, grapefruit, guava, kiwifruit, mango, melon, papaya, pineapple, plum, raspberry, strawberry, tomato, and watermelon.

Eliminate Junk Food

Eliminate all junk food such as chips, candy, chocolate, pop or anything else which your body doesn't need. Replace all junk food with fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts.

Try to avoid cooked or processed foods, and especially all fast food. Cooked food may not be bad for you, but you should still try to avoid it because once the food is exposed to heat, it looses most of the vitamins. This makes the food half good and half bad, because any food once the vitamins are lost the food becomes useless to your body.

That is why you may feel full at the end of the meal but several hours later you're starving again, because your body is craving Vitamins.

Drink Lots of Fluids

Drink lots of fluids. You should drink at least 2-3 liters every day to help hydrate your body from the inside out.

Cut down on coffee and alcoholic drinks because rather than helping to hydrate, they dehydrate.

Drink natural tea, water, or freshly squeezed juices. When drinking tea use raw honey or raw agave nectar as a sweetener instead of refined sugar.

If you don't have a juicer, get one. You'll never regret it. The juice you make yourself is so much better than any juice in the grocery store because its fresh and there are no preservatives added.

Fresh Air and Exercise

Get lots of fresh air and exercise. Even when it's cold out go for a jog or even just a walk several times per week. This will help to clear your lungs, and give you lots more energy.

Being out in the cold will not make you sick, but instead it will help strengthen your immune system to help you not to get sick. As a matter of fact its when you stay inside for too long that you will get sick.

Rest

Eliminate stress. Take several 10 minute breaks during your day and just relax. Breathe deep and let go of all your negative thoughts or worries which weigh down on your mind. Spend at least 1 hour each day alone; take a bubble bath, read, or just meditate to allow your body to totally relax.

Set aside 1 day a week solely for your family, friends, or yourself and do not do any work on that day. Just sit back and relax.

Go to bed early at the same time each night, allowing the body to fall into a routine system of sleep.

Getting enough rest is very important in order to stay healthy. When the body is stressed or not properly rested, it cannot fight the viruses as needed and you may get sick.

Hi dc64, I agree, eating healthy can be more expensive...especially if your body is not used to the healthy food. But to be honest, I find that lately I eat a lot less as my body is getting used to healthy foods and is able to absorb the nutrients better. My cravings for junk and fast foods have decreased tremendously and even though I'm still spending more, I am starting to see a decrease in my spending for food.

I would encourage you, even though things are tight to start making small changes so that it don't affect your budget to much. In the meantime, I hope that you'll feel better soon.

Great tips, and I'm sure this works, but healthy food is SO expensive. The funny thing is, I have the flu right now, so I happened upon this a bit late. I would love to eat fresh fruit and veggies, I love them, and for those who can afford them, you don't know how lucky you are! Eat 'em up! 5 stars for the good advice.
