Your Wii Games Disk Could Get Lost or Damaged!

Hi and welcome.

How would you feel if you lost or damaged any of your original Wii games disks? I bet you would feel terrible and you will probably wished you had tried to protect yourself from this situation. In this brief web page I will try and give you some information about keeping your Wii games disks safe.

We all love playing our Wii games, but from time to time thing do go wrong and we know how upsetting that can be when it happens. However, we can do a number of things to reduce how often this happens by looking after our games equipment and our games disks.

The following list gives some simple tips on how to look after your games disks:-

1. Only handle the disks by their edge and their centre ring, do no touch the shiny surface.

2. Don't leave the Wii Games disk in direct sunlight or other sources of UV light for any long periods of time as this can greatly increase the degradation rate of the dye (recordable) layer in the discs.

3. The games disc is mostly made of a polymer material that is sensitive to water and other moisture. So any prolonged exposure to moisture resulting from a spill, humid air, or immersion will allow water to become absorbed into the disc, where it may react with the layers. If this happens you can dry out the disk and it may play normally again, but if the moisture contained contaminants such as dyes or other dissolved minerals these contaminants may remain in the disk resulting in disk errors.

4. Do not put disks down on surfaces that might scratch them, or where they might get damaged.

5. Always put the disk back in its packaging when not in use and put it some where safe.

How to keep your Wii games disk clean

Don't touch the shiny disk surface, and backup your Wii games disk before it is damagedIf dust particles are sticking to the shiny games disk surface, use a piece of soft cloth to wipe off the dust. To hold the disk, insert a finger or thumb inside the centre hole of the disk or handle it by the edges but never touch the shiny surface.

If the disk surface feels sticky or greasy, mix some baby shampoo in lukewarm water and use some cotton or a soft cloth to gently rub the disk surface with this solution. Make sure the disk is completely dry (no water drops) before putting the games disk back in its jewel case.

If there are fingerprint marks on the shiny disk surface, dip a soft cloth in Isopropyl Alcohol/Ethanol/Methanol and gently wipe the surface. Never use a petroleum based solvent like Acetone as that will permanently damage the disk surface.
